a/n: little late, but happy belated april fools!
April Fools Day.
Who doesn't love it? Pranks all around, and nobody can even blame you. So imagine a full-on prank war at a reform school full of crooks who aren't concerned for anyone but themselves. Oh, and it's students versus teachers.
Truly, it's a magical day. And not just because it's in a fairytale world.
"Gilly, keep going," A voice hissed from behind me. Was Jocelyn possessed by a snake? Don't know, don't care. A snake would at least actually be intimidating.
"I am," I whispered back harshly. I crawled forward, glad I didn't have claustrophobia, because this vent was really tight.
Why are we in a vent, you ask? Patience, I'm getting there.
I found a hollow panel, and grinned, before banging on it with my fist. After a particularly loud sound, it fell, creating another particularly loud sound. I'm not a fan of particularly loud sounds, but I dealt with the particularly loud sounds. (wtf am i on lol)
One by one, we all jumped into Harlow's room. I quickly covered up Miri with a towel, and we set to work. This was gonna be epic. We had actually been planning this prank for 2 months, and we had even gotten Raz in on it. Flora was currently meeting with Raz at Royal Manor, and the meeting would go on until about 5 PM, about something boring like taxes or whatever.
"Everyone got their shaving cream?" I asked, looking around to make sure we were all armed, "The string, Jax?"
"Right here, Princess," Jax winked. Apparently, since we had started dating, Sticky Fingers and Thief weren't enough. In came Princess, Queen Cobbler, Queen Porter (I kicked him after that one), The Clumsy One (I fell down the stairs once, ok) and tons of others I can't even keep track of. Ollie's been having a field day.
"Perfect," I nodded, "Ok, so tie we'll the string right in front of the door entrance last..." We set to work, getting everything ready for the most epic prank of all FTRS history.
Just as I was finishing up with the silly string, I heard footsteps coming towards the door. All of us panicked. Jocelyn, Kayla, and AG managed to get back up the vent, but Jack, Ollie, Jax, and me were still stuck down here (Maxine refused to participate in this- she has morals. That makes one of us).
Ollie and Jack squeezed in under Harlow's desk, while Jax and I crawled under one of the beds. It was cramped and dusty underneath there, so I assumed it was Jocelyn's. Jax sent me a charming grin. The footsteps got louder.
I glared at him, and he pecked my nose, which made my cheeks turn pink. I kicked his shin as best as I could, and he winced, before kicking me back.
Fairy Be, he was annoying! I couldn't stand him, so it was a good thing I was laying down.
Two shoes appeared at the side of the bed, and I held my breath. Then, thee bed creaked.
Oh, no, no, no. How were we supposed to get out if Harlow took a nap?! We would have to wait it out.
Time passed, and I got seriously tired. I had barely slept last night, staying up all night to plan this with Kayla, Jax, and Jack.
I shifted, and rested my head on Jax's chest, eyes fluttering shut. I felt him run a hand through my hair.
"Sleep," Jax whispered, so quiet I barely heard him, "We'll be here a while."
I slowly drifted off into a dream of caramel cakes.

I woke up to being dragged out from under the bed. My eyes snapped open, and I instinctively kicked at the person's leg as hard as a could.
Jack howled, and fell to the floor, "What the fuck???"
"Sorry!" My eyes widened. Jax helped me up, while Ollie helped Jack limp towards the door.
"We gotta go quick," Jax said, "She left, but we don't know for how long. C'mon, be careful not to trip on the string."
We all exited quickly, and headed down the hallway. Jack was lagging behind, probably because of his shin.
Jocelyn looked around for a moment when the hallways shifted, "Where's Spriggins? Knowing him, he'll probably tell Harlow just for fun. He did it with Alva."
It was probably supposed to be a joke, but Jack stormed ahead, snapping, "God forbid a child try to save their mom."
Awkard silence.
AG gently touched Jocelyn's arm, "You know he doesn't like when people say that, Jocie. And it wasn't his fault."
"It was a joke," She muttered uncomfortably, before heading towards her dorm, with AG following.
"She's such a party pooper," Ollie sighed. The tension lifted slightly, in a way only Ollie could do.
"Yeah," Jax agreed, "Totally. You guys wanna hang out at the picnic benches?"
Everyone agreed- well everyone left, which was me, Jax, Maxine, Ollie, Hayley, and Kayla. Jcak joined after a few minutes, more relaxed.
15 minutes later, Harlow stormed towards us, covered in pink silly string. We all bursted out in giggles at the sight. It was hard to be intimidating when you had pink smeared all over you.
"The disrespect!" She shrieked, livid, "How dare you children do this? This foolish day should not even exist! You will all be reported- oh, to think my dear Jocie has been around brats like you. She would be horrified if she knew what you all have done!"
I snorted. Jocelyn was the one who had convinced AG and Maxine to participate, though I had a feeling Harlow wouldn't believe it if I told her that.
We all ended up in Headmistress Flora's office, still giggling. Even Flora looked amused at the sight of Harlow, half heartedly assigning us a week of detention.
And well, for a punishment, ballroom dancing with Jax wasn't the worst thing I could think of. In fact, it felt more like a reward.

My stomach hurt from laughing. I had partnered with Hayley, and Jax and Jack were dancing together. Jack had purposefully stepped on Jax's feet several times. Oh, I couldn't breathe. Jax looked so mad, it was priceless.
