Toto's wife's announcement interrupts the scene, and Toto sighs, shifting Jack in his arms. The little boy clings to him, his tiny hands gripped tightly onto Toto's shirt.
"Alright, buddy," Toto says, gently untangling Jack's hands from his shirt. "Time for lunch. Let's go."
Toto carries Jack to the kitchen, where the delicious scent of lunch is now much stronger.
As they enter the kitchen, Toto is greeted by the sight of a wonderful spread of food on the table. His wife has prepared a lovely meal, and it looks absolutely mouth-watering.
Toto sets Jack down in his highchair, and the little boy immediately starts kicking and wiggling, clearly still upset from his earlier tantrum.Jack: I don't want estToto's wife gives a sigh, clearly exasperated.
"Jack, come on now. You need to eat some lunch," she says, trying to coax the little boy into compliance.
But Jack is having none of it. He crosses his arms stubbornly and turns away from the food.
Toto watches the scene unfold, feeling a mix of frustration and helplessness. He knows that Jack needs to eat, but the little boy can be incredibly stubborn when he wants to.
"Jack, buddy, you have to eat something," Toto says, trying to keep his tone gentle but firm.
But Jack just shakes his head defiantly, his stubborn expression unyielding.
Toto and his wife exchange a look, both of them clearly at a loss for how to get their son to cooperate.
(Sorry, I will use her name here on out)
"Alright, Jack," Leah says gently, trying to keep her voice calm. "We need you to eat some lunch. Can you please try some of the food?"
Jack shakes his head again, his little face set in a stubborn frown.
Toto feels a wave of frustration wash over him, but he tries to keep it contained. He knows getting angry won't help the situation.
"Jack, listen to me," he says, crouching down so that he's eye-level with his son. "You can't just refuse to eat. You need to have a little bit of lunch, okay?"
Jack's expression remains defiant, and he kicks his legs against the high chair, causing it to rattle slightly.
Toto takes a deep breath and tries a different approach.
"What if we make a deal?" he asks, his voice soft and gentle. "If you eat some of your lunch, I'll take you outside to play later. How does that sound?"
Jack looks up at him, a hint of interest in his eyes.
Toto watches his son with bated breath, hoping that the promise of playing outside will be enough to convince him to eat. He knows that kids can be stubborn, but he also knows that they can often be bribed with the promise of fun and games.
After a few moments of contemplation, Jack finally nods his agreement. Toto feels a wave of relief wash over him, feeling like he's finally gotten through to his son.
Amelie looks just as relieved, and she begins cutting up Jack's food into smaller pieces, making it easier for him to manage.
As Jack takes his first tentative bite of food, Toto feels a sense of satisfaction wash over him. It's a small victory, but it feels like a huge one in the moment.
He watches as his son eats his lunch, his stubborn expression slowly morphing into one of contentment as he enjoys his food.
Leah and Toto watch with amazement as their son eats his entire lunch without any further protest. It's a relief, and they can't help but feel relieved.
"Good job, little man," Toto says, ruffling Jack's hair affectionately. "You ate all your food. Now you get to play outside, just like we agreed."
Jack finishes the last bite of his lunch and grins, clearly satisfied. He squirms in his highchair, ready to be let loose to run around and play.
Toto scoops him out of the highchair, holding him in his arms. "Alright, buddy. Time to go outside."
He carries Jack out of the kitchen and into the backyard, setting him down gently in the soft grass. Immediately, Jack takes off running, his little legs carrying him away from Toto as he sprints towards the nearby swing set.
Toto watches with a smile on his face as his son gleefully plays, the tantrum completely forgotten. It's moments like this that make being a parent worth it, despite the challenges and the occasional stubbornness.
He takes a seat on a nearby bench, watching as Jack swings back and forth on the swing, laughing and squealing in delight.
The sun shines down on them, and a gentle breeze ruffles Toto's hair. He takes a deep breath, inhaling the fresh air and relishing the peaceful moment. The stresses and worries of work seem far away, and for a few blissful minutes, he can just focus on his son and their time together.
Jack runs over to him, looking winded and rosy-cheeked from playing so hard. He tugs on Toto's pant leg, a silent request for his father to join in the fun.
Toto grins and ruffles Jack's hair. "You want me to play with you, huh?" he asks, feigning ignorance.
Jack nods vigorously, his eyes wide and eager. Toto stands up from the bench and stretches, feeling the tension in his muscles starting to loosen.
"Alright, alright. I guess I can join in the fun for a while."
He follows Jack over to the swing set, and together, they swing back and forth, laughing and enjoying the simplicity of the moment.
They play together for a while, Jack giggling and squealing as Toto pushes him higher and higher on the swing. Despite being tired from a long day, Toto feels a burst of energy coursing through him, fueled by his son's joyful laughter.
As the sun starts to sink lower in the sky, Toto pats Jack on the head. "Alright, buddy. It's time to head inside."
Jack protests, but he's starting to look exhausted, his little eyelids drooping with tiredness. Toto scoops him up in his arms and carries him into the house, Jack resting his head on his father's shoulder
As they enter the house, Leah is waiting for them in the living room, a warm smile on her face.
"Looks like you two had a blast," she says, taking Jack from Toto and holding him close.
"Yeah, we did," Toto says, smiling back at her. "He burned off a lot of energy, that's for sure."
He collapses onto the couch, feeling the exhaustion of the day starting to catch up with him.
Leah sits down next to him, holding Jack in her lap. The little boy yawns and snuggles closer to his mother, already starting to fall asleep.
Toto leans back on the couch, feeling contentment wash over him. Despite the challenges of being a father, he wouldn't trade these moments of peace and connection for anything
He glances over at Amelie, his heart swelling with affection for her. She is a wonderful mother to their son, and he feels incredibly lucky to have her by his side.
"Thank you," he says softly, reaching over to take her hand.
Toto's phone buzzes in his pocket, interrupting their quiet moment. He checks the screen and sees that it's a call from the office.
With a sigh, he stands up from the couch and answers the call.
"Hello?"
The voice on the other end is his assistant's, and she informs him of an urgent matter that requires his attention.
Toto's mind shifts back into work mode, and he reluctantly sets aside his peaceful evening with his family.
He tells his assistant he'll be there shortly, then hangs up and turns back to Amelie and Jack.
"Duty calls," he says, his expression apologetic. "There's something that needs my attention at the office."
Amelie nods, understanding the demands of Toto's job.
"Go on. We'll be fine here."
Toto leans down and kisses her on the forehead, then ruffles Jack's hair. "I'll be back as soon as I can," he promises.
Leah nods, understanding his commitment to his job. She looks down at Jack, who is now fast asleep on her lap.
"It's alright," she says, stroking the boy's hair gently. "We'll be here when you get back."
