Part - 9

Manik knocked her cabin's door & nandini, who had her eyes buried in the files, didn't even look at him & said "Yes come in....". Manik entered & walked towards her table. He stopped at the table & finally nandini looked up. Nandini's eyes filled up with anger again, but this time the anger was more for her than for him, she felt the guilt of everything happening from within. She got up frm the chair & said,
Nandini: manik..... tum yahan kya kar rehe ho??? I don't want to hear anything frm u... just leave my cabin.
Manik: Excuse me Dr., I m here just to ask u about my medicines.... Actually I left my list back in India only..... so as u r my Dr. I had no option than to come to u
Nandini: medicines...(softly) ohh ya plzz hv a seat...
Manik saw her return to her soft spoken doctor's attitude & was happy to see her so responsible towards her work...
Nandini: I'll just make a list of medicines for you wait a sec.
She wrote a few medicinal names on her prescription & filled the other necessary details about manik on it, & passed the papers towards him saying "u need to sign on these two papers" & with this she got up & went to the other corner of the cabin. Manik saw that nandini had also filled all the other personal details of manik, coz his hand was injured. He smiled as he saw each n everything entered by her was totally correct. She knew every detail about him, his specific allergies, medical history, etc. he tried to sign it but couldn't, as his hand was paining a lot, he wasn't even able to even hold the pen properly. Suddenly, the pen fell down on the floor, nandini turned to see manik with his eyes closed due to pain. She ran towards him & took his hand in hers,
Nandini: manik r u fine.... Is it paining very much??
Manik opened his eyes & saw her face full of concern for him. He just kept on staring at her for a long time, and then suddenly nandini backed off. He came back to his senses & said,
Manik: I m not able to sign..... can't it do without my signatures??
Nandini: no its illegal here to give medicines without proper signatures.
Manik: ohk fine...
He again picked up the pen & tried to sign, nandini saw him in pain & held his hand. Manik turned to see her as nandini slowly helped him to sign. As she did it & turned manik asked,
Manik: if u care for me so much......then why do u want to stay away frm Me.??? How do u knw each n every detail about me??? Why do u care, if I risk my life or not???
Nandini stayed quite at it all.
Manik: say nandini.... Answer my questions...??
Nandini didn't hv any voice to speak but she gathered courage & said,
Nandini: coz I m ur dr..... & nothing else.
Manik: ohh really...... so according to u, all this was done by u, as u r a caring dr..... then plz tell me where did this caring dr. go, when she left the country just the time when her patient had just had a major surgery.
Nandini: listen Mr. Manik Malhotra.... That was a personal decision & u hv no right to question me about my personal life...... I can do anything I wish & u r no one-
Nandini was saying when Manik stopped her by keeping his figure on her lips.
Manik: stop it nandini..... its been enough..... don't u think 7 & a half yrs r just too much 4 all this to go further. I very well knw that u love me & this bracelet in ur hand proves it,& there is something which is stopping u to come near me.... Talk to me, say it, maybe I can help u...
Manik's words were choking nandini, she felt weak at her knees, as she felt her tears were about to flow down she tyrned towards the opposite direction frm him, but he kept on continuing.
Manik: nandini I m here 4 u.... plz atleast talk to me once.... I promise I'll leave after that if u say...
Nandini removed her tears frm her face & thought a lot. Manik was quite, she thought he was waiting 4 her to talk & then a few mins later, she finally turned to say something & found manik lying down on the floor, unconscious. All her cover, went off, she got panicked & started crying loudly, she screamed for the ward boys or nurse but no one heard her. She picked up her phone & Albert's no.,
Albert: yes nandini say!!!
Nandini: Albert manik!! Manik.....is....(she just kept on crying hard)
Albert: nandini what happened why r u crying?? Where is manik??
Nandini: he is lying unconscious in my cabin...
Albert: what???? Ohk u calm down I'll just be there.
Albert rushed to her office with a few other hospital staff, they picked up manik & albert checked him up, nandini was standing in the same room but this time not as a doctor but as a normal girl crying for her love. The entire hospital staff was shocked to see nandini this way. They had always seen her strong, even in the worst situations as well. Albert checked manik thoroughly for about 10 mins & came to nandini. Nandini was still crying, so he came & hugged her saying,
Albert: relax, nandini.... Relax, he is fine..... He fainted just bcoz of weakness & lack of rest. Calm down...
Nandini: but he was talking to me & suddenly he....
Albert: nandini.... I m telling u, he is fine.... U can check him urself....
Nandini calmed down & said after a few moments,
Nandini: no its fine, I knw u r the best in ur work...
Albert: so relax.... He'll get back to his senses in about an hour, I hv given him some injections at present
Nandini: ohk dr.... thank u very much.
Albert smiled at her & left, nandini stared at manik for a few minutes & then left towards the reception..
Nandini: excuse me!!
Receptionist: yes doctor nandini!!! How can I help u??
Nandini: actually I wanted to admit a patient... the one who fainted in my cabin a few mins back.
Receptionist: yes dr. I knw..
Nandini: ya... so I want him to be admitted right now. He was operated by me 3 days back in India in a major surgery & is still very weak. So make sure, that he is admitted for at least a week.
Receptionist: ohk doctor as u say.... But some1 of his family, has to fill this form for that.
Nandini: his family is in India!! For now I'll fill this form??
Receptionist: doc. U??... but how will u get to knw his other details.
Nandini: I knw them all.... Don't worry.
The receptionist was shocked to see how nandini knew each & every details about manik. His eating habbits, etc,etc. Nandini deposited the payment for 7 days & went back to her cabin. An hour later, manik got back to his senses & a nurse went to him,
Nurse: how r u feeling now sir??
Manik: I m fine but what am I doing here??
Nurse: sir u fainted bcoz of weakness & lack of rest.
Manik: ohk... so now I m feeling fine, plz get my bills I hv got to go!!
Nurse: sorry sir but u can't leave like this....
Manik: what do u mean I can't leave??
Nurse: sir u hv been admitted here for 7 days... and u can't leave before that.
Manik: what kind of a compulsion is this.... I want to leave & I wil... u can't force me to get admitted, if u will I'll not pay ur bills
Nurse: sir, ur bills r already cleared.... & u can't leave before 7 days.
Manik: cleared??? Who cleared them??
Nurse: the person who admitted u..
Manik: who??
Nurse: Dr. Nandini Moorthy.. she has given strict instructions, not to be lenient towards u & to not let u leave before u recover fully.
Manik: nandini..
Nurse: yes sir.
Manik: I wanna meet her... I m going to her cabin
Nurse: sir, its her break time, so she has left 4 home, she'll return in 2 hrs.
Manik stared the nurse in an angry look & got back to his bed. The nurse gave him some medicines, which he clearly didn't wish to hv but had without even uttering a single word. He again went back to sleep, after adding an alarm on his phone after 2 hrs.
Nandini entered his room, about 1 & a half hr later, making sure he is asleep. She talked to the nurse, who told her the entire scene which occurred & then said,
Nurse: he wanted to meet u doc. But as u weren't here, he slept after putting an alarm as his cell.
Nandini: ohk u leave, I m here for a few mins..
Nurse: as u say doc.
Nandini went to manik's side & sat there picking up his phone. She saw her photograph as his wallpaper. She wanted to close the alarm but for that, she needed his password, which she obviously didn't knw. She clicked on the hint option to see the hint to guess the password & the hint was "MY LIFE", she looked towards him & then tried several passwords like,
Fab5,music , my love, star, but none of these was right then she typed the next one as 'my star', and this time it gave the msg 'incomplete password'. After this she entered 'my star nandini', and to her surprise she was right. She switched off his alarm & then looked towards manik & said,
Nandini: u can never win over me Mr. Manik Malhotra.
Soon after than she called the nurse & gave her a bag saying,
Nandini: this has some food for him & coffee as well. He has a habit to hv coffee in the evening, so give it to him as he gets up.... Don't worry he'll not get up before a few more hrs, I hv turned off his alarm
Nurse: ohk doc. As u say.
Manik got up another 2 hrs later. As he got up, he picked up his phone to check the time.
Manik: ohh shit I slept for 4 hrs, why didn't u wake me up??
Nurse: I m not allowed to disturb any sleeping patient sir
Manik: didn't my alarm ring??
Nurse: no sir, it didn't
Manik: did nandini come to visit??
Nurse: yes sir she came 2 hrs ago to check ur on going progress.
Manik gave her a stern look as she filled up a mug of coffee for him & gave it to him. He took a sip & turned towards her again.
Manik: did nandini get this for me...
The nurse nodded her head in a yes & got back to her work. Just then albert entered,
Albert: so how do u feel my brother
Manik: I m gud, but ur doctors hv admitted me over here forcefully.
Albert: ( smiling) I wish my doctors had that right, v could hv saved many lives... it was ur frnd who forced u.... (to the nurse) angela don't u knw that this kind of a coffee is not allowed to him.
Angela: but doc. I gave this bcoz-
Albert: I don't wanna listen to anything... don't u knw its dangerous 4 him
He took the cup frm manik's hand & that very moment nandini entered the room & said
Nandini: no, its not (nandini came forward & continued) sorry dr., but I knew his habit of having coffee, so I prepared it myself..... it is made frm the patients coffee which the hospital gives, but I hv made it in a special way that's why u felt that its dangerous.
Albert: ohh, no I don't hv any problem if u hv prepared it, I knw u always take work before anything else.
Albert gave the cup back to manik & said,
Albert: sorry buddy, now u can hv ur special coffee.
Manik: thank u... and yes it is definitely special, after all isme nandini me itna pyaar jo milaya h mere liye
Albert: (not understanding the part in hindi) sorry!!
Manik: no no nothing....
Nandini: albert I guess ppl are taking things in a wrong way... anyways I hv work, u guys carry on...
Albert: hey I too hv to talk 2 u about something, I'll join u...(to manik) so my frnd just relax & get rest... I'll see u latr
Manik: yaa.... Thanks..
With this albert & nandini left the room & manik enjoyed his special coffee...
