Seven days.
It sounded less like a countdown to a wedding and more like a prison sentence-at least for them.
Arthur exhaled sharply, rubbing his temples before looking at the girl in front of him. His to be fiancée.
"Look, Shrayn, I think we both need to talk," he said, his tone softer than usual. "Our families aren't backing off. This decision is final-we're getting married."
Shrayn folded her arms, her expression a mix of defiance and sheer exasperation.
"You know what, Arthur?" she huffed. "I don't wanna marry anyone-including you!"
Arthur shut his eyes for a brief second, trying to suppress the irritation bubbling in his veins. "And why, huh?" he asked, opening them to stare at her. "Why don't you want to marry me?"
She rolled her eyes before launching into full-on dramatic mode.
"Because-what if you beat me after marriage?!" she gasped, making his brows shoot up. "Seeing your anger issues, I have serious doubts!"
Arthur clenched his jaw, but she wasn't done yet.
"And what if you have an affair, huh?! Mai toh lut jaungi!!! And-OH MY GOD-what if you get bored of me?!" She held her chest dramatically. "What if you stop me from eating Kinder Joys?! What if you refuse to watch Barbie Mermaid and Harry Potter with me?! What if-"
"SHUT UP, SHRAYN!" Arthur snapped, cutting her off before she could go on another "what if" tangent.
She sniffled. "Ek chittar maarungi na, Sara shut up nikal jayega Marjaane!" she muttered, rubbing her nose dramatically.
Arthur groaned. "Hayee, aapke Waheguru mujhe baksh dein, Sardarni! Kya kya sochti ho aap?!"
She gasped, offended. "I'm just saying facts! Haven't you seen Mrs Movie?!"
Arthur looked at her, baffled. "Shrayn, you know what? Stop watching movies!"
She froze. Then, as if thunder had struck her, her mouth dropped open.
"LOOK! I KNEW IT!" she screeched. "See, see! You're already trying to stop me from watching movies-BEFORE marriage! Waheguru, what's going to happen after?!" She clutched her forehead in exaggerated horror.
Arthur clenched his fists. Patience, Arthur. Patience.
"I SAID," he gritted out, "FREAKING STOP YELLING! Can't you talk like a normal person?!"
Her lips wobbled, and she pouted. "I... I'm just a girl. And you can't shout at me like that-only I can!"
Arthur sighed, running a hand through his hair before holding her shoulders. He bent slightly, meeting her gaze.
