(Y/n) crouched on Sin's back, flipping her dark helmet over her face. "Test 84. Standing now, go slow."
She gently attached her feet to the magnetic strips that were sown to her saddle, and the psuhed herself into a standing position. Of course, that's exactly when a strong wind blew and Sin dipped down with a sudden joly.
Consequently, (Y/n) was blown off Sin's back and plummeted down to the ground. She looked down, and at that point, she didn't even bother screaming; Sin never stopped finding the stunt funny.
Sin dove down to rescue her rider, flying under (Y/n) to catch her. (Y/n) grabbed onto the handles of the saddle and yanked herself forward until her feet were back in the footholds, and Sin unfurled her wings and leveled out in the air.
(Y/n) flicked Sin's ear, earning a grunt. "What did I say about going slow?"
Sin turned her head, as if wanting to start arguing, but then her ears sharpened, flicking backwards and her body tensed, which made (Y/n) pause. Her reaction... it was defensive. But not towards (Y/n).
No.
When Sin flapped her wings softer, gliding more than flying, (Y/n) realized she was trying to be silent. And that's when they heard it.
The flapping of wings.
(Y/n) swore. Glancing back discreetly, the white clouds did nothing to hide the black dragon slowly trailing them, but what caught her offguard was the person atop the dragon.
Another dragon rider.
In all her years growing up, she hadnever encountered people riding on dragons. She thought she was the first, or at the most, might never even have the chance to encounter another dragon rider. To be honest, she's barely a dragon rider. She falls off the saddle at least once on her best days.
But the sight of the dragon rider following her made her heart race dangerously. Have they started using dragons to hunt her down now? It's been about a year since she had encountered a Shruiken fighter; maybe they trained dragons to do their bidding in that time.
Or maybe this was someone else from another island completely.
Either way, it wouldn't do to be followed back to the cave. Not after the extremes she went through to make sure she vanished.
"We have to disappear," (Y/n) whispered, feeling strangely suffocated. She's had a few months of peace but it was bound to get ugly sooner or later. She probably should have prepared for feeling that disappointed.
Sin was flying over a myriad of tiny islands, and the way to the cave was behind them, so they had to lose their tail if they wanted to get home. Bracing herself on the handholds of the saddle, (Y/n) leaned forward and urged Sin to speed up.
"Sin, we gotta lose them now," she said, pressing herself close to the dragon's back, and the wind whistled as they shot forward like an arrow. When they appraoched an island that had an abandoned field, there was the remains of a screcrow in the center. (Y/n) nudged Sin to dive, and she snatched up the scarecrow as they passed.
"Let's play a trick," (Y/n) grinned, looking back to find the black dragon keeping pace with them. Then, Sin shot upwards, her powerful wings beating against the wind as they made their ascent, and sure enough, the dragon rider pursuing them followed, trying to make sure they don't get lost in the clouds.
But they were lost in the clouds, and (Y/n) waited, the air thin and cold as she tried to hear where the dragon rider was, and when she saw the sharp zip of black against white clouds below her, searching for her, she tossed the scarecrow over and screamed. It echoed, shrill and loud, and as the scarecrow plummeted past the dragon rider, the black dragon dove to follow the scarecrow.
(Y/n) quietly nudged Sin to go back the way they came, and Sin flew back, hurrying to make distance between them and the dragon rider before their ruse was discovered. (Y/n) didn't realize she was clenching the handlebars of the saddle so hard her fingers were turning white, but she felt like she could only let go and breathe when they were far enough from the rider.
They zipped back to their island, and by the time they reached the cave, a storm was brewing. Sin seemed delighted to fly through the dark clouds, but they couldn't risk conducting lightning now that they had been chased once; it wouldn't do any good to be found out again.
By the time they flew back to their island, storm clouds were brewing. It wouldn't be long before rain fell, and they needed to get back to shelter Plus, going by how loudly Sin's stomach was grumbling, (Y/n) wouldn't be surpised if the dragon took a chomp out of her arm just because she was impatient.
The second they touched down at the entrance of the cave, Sin's ears pricked up and she growled lowly.
(Y/n) then noticed the footprints in the soft mud, trailing to the cave. Sin growled louder, and (Y/n) plucked the metal rod from her belt before advancing into the cave.
Pressing herself against the wall of the cave as she snuck forward, a voice echoed from the tunnels, and she flipped her helmet over her face as she went closer.
"-you think it's the same rider we were chasing? Whoever it is, this person is definitely talented. Look at all this stuff!"
So it was the same person who chased them. How did he even find the cave?
(Y/n) reached her cavern, and peeking over the edge, she found the same rider and his dragon rummaging through her stuff. The man had her journal in his hands and was eagerly flipping through the pages.
(Y/n) moved out of the shadows, and the dragon immediately picked up on her location. It swiftly turned around and placed itself between her and its rider, hackled raised and teeth bared in a snarl.
The rider swung around, eyes going wide at the sight of her, and Sin behind her, growling loudly. He held a hand to his dragon to calm it down.
"Get out of my cave," (Y/n) rasped.
"Hey! It's okay. We're not going to harm you. We just need a place to stay. There's a storm coming," the man said. His voice was nasally, but he was very handsome with his auburn hair messed from his helmet, and the strange outfit he was wearing. He was skinny.
She could easily take him out.
But then she realized he might not be as helpless as she assumed.
Because his dragon was one of the most feared dragons throughout the lands.
A nighfury.
