While the Dragon Riders had taken about a whole week to defeat Viggo, Ryker and Shellfire, they collapsed at the Edge for some time. Hiccup was frantic and nervous the full time. He had lost sleep, patience and time. He had no idea how to find Skye ever again. She was truly lost out of the archipelago.

Astrid walked into Hiccup's room to find him packing supplies in his bag and saddling up Toothless. She folded her arms. "That's a lot of food you're packing there."

"Yes, I suppose so."

"Which means you will be gone for a long time."

Hiccup faltered, but the continued. "Probably. "

Astrid sighed. "Hiccup, you can't do this without us."

"I can try."

"Try what? Go searching for days until you come up empty-handed? We know her. She can disappear as if she had never existed. You need us."

Hiccup was about to respond when the island started shaking, the ground creating a rumbling sound.

"What was that?" She asked when it subsided.

Hiccup looked out of his dorm. "I don't know. Let's find out."

That's when they found out that the volcano on the island started erupting.

Skye had lost the Shriuken quite some time back, as she had turned back and hid on a sea-stack near the Dragon Hunter island itself.
After eight days of feeding on berry bushes and taking large risks to get fresh water, Skye had had enough of waiting. She was starving, dehydrated, and weak. Her dragons were in better condition because they could eat raw fish without getting food-poisoning. She couldn't cook the fish in case someone glimpsed the fire. There was no one left on the island. No one would think of going back to the deserted Hunters' island.

"Let's go, Sinless." Skye said as they took flight, carefully landing in a thicket of trees. She got off the dragon and they both walked to the buildings and tents.

"What do I do, girl? Every time I think of my next move, I come up empty."

Sin nudged the girl, who smiled and stroked her.

"Should I go back to Hiccup? I-I don't think I can. What if someone sees me and decided to follow me to him? I'll put them all in danger," she said, thinking about moments with the Riders.

Skye heard a clink near her feet, and looked down. Sin and Wolf had gone off playing. Perhaps to invade the food storage. The girl saw her necklace with her parents' rings on the ground, and she huffed and picked it up, walking to the blacksmith. She needed to clear her thoughts, and she was too lethargic to train. Skye inspected the chain, finding the clasp broken. "Hm. Maybe I should make another chain for this. I do need a distraction."

Skye set to work, heating the furnace at her own pace. It felt very relaxing to be on her own for some time, to be able to do things her own way. She tried for an hour or so to make a thin chain, but every time she stretched the metal, it snapped. Every time she tried making a new clasp, it melted over. She didn't have the proper, delicate tools for this task.

Skye let out a long, frustrated groan. "Why-" she punched the wall once, "does-" twice, "nothing-" thrice, "work?!"

She gave one last punch and then hissed. Her knuckles were slightly scratched, and she rubbed them tenderly. It then hit her. Literally.
A rod fell from a shelf—which was rickety every time she had punched the wall—and hit her head, making her let out another groan and she kicked the rod.
