After Edward's declaration everyone in the house was silent.
Honestly most of them thought that they had heard the mind reader wrong.
Move away? Why would they need to move away?
Jasper started to feel guilty, wondering if Edward wanting to move away was all because of his little slip up?
To be honest, it wasn't a questionable move, given that every single time one of them slipped up in the past, usually Jasper or Emmett, sometimes Charlotte or Alice if they met their blood singers, and that one time it happened due to Esme losing control.
But he hadn't actually spilt any blood this time, he didn't kill anyone, so why did Edward want to leave?
"Son, what's brought this on?" Carlisle asked with concern etched into his marble features that all vampires spotrted.
"Bella could've been killed tonight, and I don't think having us near her would be good for her. She deserves a human life, where she can grow old, marry, have kids, and die." Edward said resolutely.
"Is it my fault?" Jasper asked quietly, even though everyone heard him, the soft vulnerability in his voice startled everyone in the room.
They were just now starting to realize how deeply Jasper was effected by this little incident.
Edward frowned, pushing away his own feelings and desires for a minute to listen to Jasper's thoughts.
Monster
I could've killed her
Edward must hate me.
All such thoughts swirled around in Jasper's head.
In a single blink of an eye, Edward was kneeling down in front of his older brother, grasping his chin with his hand and lifting it up to meet his eyes.
"No Jasper, this wasn't your fault, If anything it was my own fault, I pushed her into the mirror, I persued her because I was tired of being lonely, the connection I feel with Bella is something you all described feeling with your own mates, it filled me with immense joy and because of that, my actions could have killed her." Edward said firmly.
And for once, Rosalie could agree with Edward.
It was his fault, she and others of the family had tried to warn him away with tangling with the human.
Now look at them.
But at least Jasper felt the sincerity in Edward's words and a huge weight lifted off of his shoulders.
His shoulders sagged as relief hit him. Edward didn't hate him.
"I could never hate any one of you, don't think like that." Edward said to Jasper.
And for once, it seemed as if the old Edward was back, the one who was like the family's therapist almost, him and Jasper really were the best to go to when they were stuck in their thoughts or their emotions were out of whack.
"Do we really have to leave though?" A saddened Alice asked quietly from where she was sitting beside Jasper.
"I believe it would be for the best. I'm only endangering Bella, and risking exposure for our family too." Edward said sadly.
He didn't want to leave Bella, but he had to.
This was for the best, he quietly kept reminding himself.
"But what about the rest of us, why do we have to leave?" Charlotte asked in fury.
They had a routine. They could spend up to 6-8 years in each town before they had to start over.
