San ended the call and turned toward Taehyung, biting her lower lip nervously, her eyes fixed on the floor. Her heart still raced from Pihu's teasing, and now she felt even more flustered standing in front of him after what she had just admitted.
Taehyung watched her for a moment, the corners of his lips curling into a soft, sheepish smile. "So..." he started, his voice low and careful, as if testing the waters.
San hesitantly lifted her gaze, her eyes holding a flicker of anticipation, waiting for him to speak.
He scratched the back of his neck, his tone slightly awkward but still teasing. "Umm... so now you're my girlfriend." He smiled, his voice stretching the words a little longer, as if trying to grasp the reality of it himself.
"From 'San' to 'My San.' That's a pretty big step up, don't you think?"
San blinked, her brain taking an extra second to process his words. Her eyes widened slightly, and an uncontrollable heat rose to her cheeks, painting them in a deep crimson. She opened her mouth to say something but no words came out-just an embarrassed little breath. She quickly bit her lower lip again, looking down like a lost puppy, her mind going completely blank.
It was the first time in her life someone had called her his girlfriend. The word sounded foreign to her ears yet so warm and right coming from him. She didn't know how to respond-what could she even say? This was new, unfamiliar. She had never talked to any guy beyond what was necessary, and now here he was-the first guy she ever befriended, the first to stir such deep feelings in her, and now the first to call her his girlfriend. It felt surreal.
Seeing her struggling with her response, Taehyung's smile grew wider, and his heart melted at her flustered state. He took a small step closer, leaning slightly to catch her eyes. "Yah..." he said softly, his voice laced with fond amusement. "You're going to say something or just keep biting your lip like that?"
San's eyes darted up to his momentarily before she quickly looked away again, trying hard to find her voice. "I-I... um..." she stammered, feeling utterly helpless. "I just... I don't know what to say," she admitted in a small voice, clutching the hem of her kurti.
Taehyung chuckled, his heart blooming with affection at how adorable she looked-like a shy little bunny caught in headlights. "It's okay," he reassured gently.
"I-It just... feels new," she confessed honestly, her voice still timid. "I mean... I've never had... you know... a boyfriend before. Or anyone calling me their's... like this." The last word barely escaped her mouth, as if she was still trying to wrap her head around it.
Taehyung watched her closely, noticing the way she kept fidgeting, as if unsure of how to act now. Her fingers twisted slightly in the fabric of her kurti, her gaze flickering to the floor more often than usual. He exhaled softly, "San... I know this feels different. But you don't have to change the way you are around me." His words were quiet, reassuring, as if he could sense the uncertainty creeping into her mind. "Just because we confessed doesn't mean you suddenly have to act in a certain way. I don't want that."
San's eyes lifted slowly, meeting his for a second before darting away again. She wasn't sure what she had expected him to say, but somehow, his words made something in her chest ache.
He leaned back slightly, his voice softer now. "We started as friends, and that's how it'll always be first-friends, then everything else. I don't want you to feel like you have to force yourself into something unfamiliar just because we gave this a name."
She nodded slowly, trying to absorb his words. It should have been reassuring, but somehow, it wasn't as easy as he made it sound. There was a difference between being a friend and a girlfriend, a difference she had never experienced before. He might not expect her to act differently, but that didn't mean things wouldn't change. There were things she had never thought about before saying or doing, things that felt new and unknown. Would she have to start doing things differently?
