"Alaina!" I heard the familiar voice of my bestfriend, Lauren call. "Where are you going?"

"Home," I mumbled as I kept on walking to my car.

"It's a Friday night and your going home?" She asked, running behind me.

"I guess so," I said, searching for my car keys.

Lauren stepped in front of me, blocking the way to my car. I looked up into her dark brown eyes, as she stood there with a smile on her face.

"I have somewhere we could go," she said casually, not leaving her position.

"Please not another lame ass party with drunk idiots," I replied.

"No, we're going to a club," she said, flipping her long blonde hair behind her in the process.

"A club?" I asked.

"In Toronto," lauren said.

"Hell no," I replied, pushing her aside so i could get in my car.

"Come on, don't be so crabby," she whined, grabbing my arm.

I winced, feeling a shot of pain run through my arm. Lauren instantly retreated, looking at me sincerely.

"Oh god, I'm sorry, I totally forgot about that," she said quickly.

"It's okay," I said before letting out a sigh.

I had bruises on my arm from my dad. It happened a couple times a week, once a week if I was lucky. He would abuse me, and Lauren was the only one who knew about it.

Ever since my mom died, things went downhill in my family. My sister, Jenna, who was 19 at the time, left us for good and never contacted us again. I don't know what happened to my dad, but it was like he turned into a completely different person.

He started abusing me, and I was too young and scared to do anything about it. He started smoking heavily and drinking a lot, which only added to our problems.

Ever since then, all I can remember is my life being horrible. I wouldn't say I was depressed, but I was definetly not okay. I only had Lauren to be there for me, and I couldn't even open up to her about how I was really feeling.

I didn't even let myself think about boys, because everything I did, I thought of my dad. I didn't trust them or want to be with them because I was afraid they would do what my dad did to me.

I got so used to hiding my feelings that it became a regular thing - an easy thing.

"Has it gotten any better?" Lauren asked quietly.

"I don't really wanna talk about that," I replied quickly, because I honestly didn't.

"Okay, well I'll pick you up at 6:30, kay? Kay." Before I had anytime to respond, she was off.

I got in my car, and started leaving school. What she had planned for tonight I had no idea, and I guess I was going to find out.

I turned the radio on, the sound of the familiar pop singer Justin Bieber filling my car. I didn't know much about this kid, but all I knew was that all of the girls were in love with him for some reason. He didn't seem very special to me, just another famous teenage boy who all of the girls fell in love with. His music was ok and he seemed cool, but I wasn't really interested.

I parked my car and got out, hoping my dad wouldn't be home. I opened the door to my house quietly, maybe I could find a way to sneak out without him noticing if he was here.

"Alaina?" I heard a voice from the kitchen yell.

Oh shit, he was here.

I stopped in my tracks, hoping that he wouldn't hear me.

I heard footsteps approaching me, and was soon faced with my dad. Holding a cigarette in his hand, he scowled when he saw me.

"Trying to sneak away from me now are you?" He asked, a smirk planted on his face.

I shook my head, not wanting to deal with him right now.

"Answer me," he replied sternly, making me jump a little bit.

"No," I said plainly. "And I'm hanging out with Leslie tonight."

"Who gave you the permission to do that?" He asked, leaning against the wall, blocking me from leaving the hallway.

"Myself," I replied.

He cocked his head to the side, not taking his eyes off of me. "Your my daughter and you'll do what I say. And your not going tonight."

"Why not?" I asked. "Leslie is the only one who has been there for me, unlike you who's supposed to be my-"

I was interrupted with the sound of a slap, and my right cheek started burning.

I felt my eyes watering, but I wasn't going to let myself cry in front of him. I wasn't going to let him know that he had won.

"That little mouth of yours is going to get you in trouble," My dad said before leaving.

I quickly went upstairs, escaping from my dad. I walked over to the mirror, looking at the reflection that it portrayed. My cheek was red, and there was probably going to be a mark on it later.

Whatever Lauren had planned for tonight, it better be good. Because I needed something to help me forget about this nightmare of a life I was in.
