CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Jemima sat in the wine and cake restaurant stroke bar that Ayo have always wanted to go to, she didn't go alone she was with Ayo and although she said they should come here, she wasn't enjoying herself. She wondered why people thought eating cake and drinking wine was supposed to be a thing, it didn't go but she didn't show her displeasure as she and Ayo were having maybe their last date together. Telling him about the kiss and about Damola sounded like a good idea when Kamsi and Dami were going on and on about it, Yesterday when she had come back from a late night poetry class she had been dragged to by Hauwa, Jemima walked into her living room and found Ayo seated on her sofa, his head bowed, waiting for her. They hadn't spoken for a week, she didn't explain why she had left him at the restaurant and switched off her phone ignoring the world, they didn't talk about it and Jemima didn't want to care. Ayo on the other hand acted like everything was okay, when she saw him on her sofa last night, her conversation with Kamsi and Dami played on her mind, but she could not bring herself to do it. Now seated in front of him, Jemima thought against telling him right there when he was enjoying his wine and debated whether sending him a breakup message will be a better idea. She sipped the second taste wine they had brought to their table, luckily for them, the day they came to the bar was the wine tasting day and as a lover of wine and cake even though the combination wasn't hitting Jemima was excited until she wasn't but she was going to enjoy it for Ayo's sake.

"This tastes better than the other one." Ayo said as he tasted red wine "It tastes richer..." He talked like an expert in wine and Jemima found it hilarious not in a mean way, he wasn't talking about work which he loves talking about.

"How many wines have you tasted that you've become an expert?" She laughed

"If you most know I know a lot of wine."

Jemima chuckled "I see... so what does this wine have that the last one doesn't?" She wasn't interested in wine education, she was interested in teasing him.

"It's a plait noir... the flavors burst in your mouth and you taste it all, its light and delicate, doesn't scare you off like the first..." Jemima pretended to pay attention while in her head she thought of what she should do, she still enjoyed his company, she still felt happy when he called, she still felt giddy when he touches her, everything still felt new.

The next time the waiter brought cake to their table, there was no wine in sight and Jemima was sort of happy until he said the cake was a red wine chocolate cake, Jemima didn't like chocolate cake, but she tried it, and it was okay to her tastebuds. They bantered on cake before they were tired and wanted to leave. Maybe it was too much wine in her system, but Jemima became very chatty on their ride back to her house, she said a lot and when she said it passively, she held her mouth from her confession, this wasn't how she wanted to confess.

"I think I like someone else..." she gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. Ayo had heard her, and it was too late to change her words. "I'm sorry... this wasn't how I planned to tell you... not in your car, not tipsy..." She waited for him to say something, but Ayo focused on the road, Jemima didn't continue her confession and let silence fill the gap, but it wasn't for long, as Ayo turned to the street of her apartment she started blabbing "You know I love you Ayo... You know every time you make a mistake that hurts, I let it go quickly. Why? because I'm in love with you. My actions show how much I love you but..." She paused to catch her breath, she didn't know where she was going with her confession, whether it was a confession, an apology or a breakup message, it was up for debate.

"I can't let you make me feel like I'm not wanted, I can't let you control my feelings all the time, I don't like how you made me feel like I wasn't your girlfriend. I may have indulged him from the beginning cos of how you made me feel but it developed into something I didn't plan."
