To celebrate the end of an era, I will post the last two chapters today... I will miss you guys.
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
"I thought you didn't see me."
Jemima responded that she didn't want to say anything when she first saw him. When he walked past her, she felt a rush of emotions that had somehow died down because she had not seen him in weeks. She may have lost Ayo, but she wasn't ready to lose Damola. It was selfish, but she did not care; she pretended not to care. She had a smile on her face like she had not been sulking some hours ago. She didn't want to narrate how she had Ayo might have broken up, even though they had not said the words Let's break up, She removed the sulky face and replaced it with a smile.
"Almost didn't recognise you.." He teased, and that made her laugh "Leaving already?"
"Yeah...left Kamsi inside."
"By herself or with her fiancé?"
"By herself... she brought me out to eat but..."
"You said something and stormed out." He wasn't asking, it was like he knew something was happening. "Should we go for a ride... like the first time?"
Jemima pretended to think about it. She had not been in his convertible since that time, and the thought of it was sweet to her ears. She nodded before acknowledging the nod with a "Yes"
They got into his car and sat there before he said, "Would you like to drive?"
Jemima's head turned with so much force, it would have snapped off if she were too fragile. "Would you love to risk it?"
"Risk it?.... don't you know how to drive?"
"I don't know... It's been a long I drove a car."
"Wow..." He started the engine of the car before unfolding the roof. She missed the feeling when she was with him in the car, she somehow forgot what she was going through and lived in the moment. She missed the feeling of letting go and not bothering about what will be, she missed it because that feeling was accompanied by Damola, that's why she could easily smile when she saw him and let go. He was the escape she needed, but she didn't realise it until they were on the Eko Atlantic road, zooming on the free road as the wind blew her hair.
"Did you miss this? I realised I enjoy doing this with you... You somehow made it look fun." He confessed, she was absent-minded but she heard him, she was too happy to reply to him "I tried it days after our kiss to clear my head, but it reminded me a lot about you.. You're screaming at the top of your lungs, enjoying the ride." He looked at her, she was deep in thoughts looking far ahead.
Damola focused on his driving. He noticed the atmosphere and somehow guessed what was going on, but he didn't want to be the one to start the conversation. She had been on his mind since the kiss, and she started hiding, and he didn't mind as he knew he had put her in a pickle. She had a boyfriend, and he had stepped on the gear of showing her that he liked her, even though he was aware. He got the green light from her because she was actively responding to his gestures; he didn't care if he was a toy to make her boyfriend jealous, he just enjoyed it because he liked her. He had always liked her, even before they met. He had seen her in a group picture with his father and other employees on their Instagram page a year before he came back to Nigeria, she had somehow stood out in the picture and captured his heart. When he found out she was with someone, that made him angry. He remembered the first day they met in the conference room after his Dad had introduced him as the new CEO, she had smiled at him, but he wasn't over the fact that she had a boyfriend, instead of returning the smile, he had groaned, which wasn't the plan. He had to keep up his first reaction, but it became hard for him to as her face was everywhere, and they worked closely for the first three weeks.
