Earlier in the evening, when the bride—her new sister-in-law—had arrived, all eyes had been on her. The house had been filled with music, laughter, and endless rituals. Y/N had taken care of every little thing: setting up the seating, ensuring the gifts were placed perfectly, adjusting the decorations, and serving food. From morning till night, she had been on her feet, making sure everything ran smoothly.
Yet, her family still wasn’t satisfied.
When all the ladies finally gathered in the living room with the new bride, Y/N came in with a tray of drinks, her feet aching with every step. She carefully handed each woman a glass, her movements precise, silent.
One of her aunts took a sip and wrinkled her nose. “Did you put too much sugar in this? Or are you just careless as usual?”
Another woman giggled. “Oh, don’t be too harsh on her. She tries, but she always falls short.”
The laughter rippled through the group, and Y/N’s face burned with humiliation. She kept her head down, swallowing the bitterness rising in her throat.
Her mother, instead of defending her, smirked. “She needs to learn. What use is a daughter who can’t even get the simplest things right?”
The bride’s gaze flickered toward Y/N for a brief moment, but she said nothing.
As Y/N turned to leave, one of her cousins suddenly gasped. “Oh my, look at her neck!”
Another aunt leaned forward, her eyes narrowing. “Tch, tch. Someone’s been enjoying herself, hasn’t she?”
The room filled with knowing chuckles, their voices laced with mockery. “She works like a servant all day, but at night, she finds time for other things,” a relative teased.
Y/N’s entire body stiffened as she instinctively reached up, brushing her fingers against the faint marks on her neck. Heat crept up her cheeks as her mother scoffed. “Shameless girl. You have time for this but not to do your work properly?”
The bride looked uncomfortable, but the others continued, feeding off the humiliation radiating from Y/N.
“Maybe that’s why she’s so tired. Poor thing must be exhausted from all her... duties,” another woman sneered.
One of the aunts smirked and leaned closer to the group, her voice dripping with cruelty. “I’m surprised Taehyung even touches her. Doesn’t he feel disgusted by her? Poor Taehyung.”
The laughter that followed was even louder, more vicious. Y/N clenched her jaw, forcing herself to keep her expression blank as she set down the tray and quickly excused herself.
Her ears burned with the sound of their taunts.
There was still work to do.
And they still wouldn’t let her breathe.
The house was finally still. The laughter, the celebrations, the noise—it had all faded into the late hours of the night. Y/N exhaled softly, her body aching from the endless tasks of the day.
She hadn’t stopped moving since morning.
She hadn’t even breathed without worrying about what still needed to be done.
Her mother’s sharp instructions had rung in her ears all day.
“Make sure everything is perfect.”
“If anything goes wrong, it’ll be your fault.”
“Don’t just stand there—move faster!”
Relatives had been no better. Aunts, cousins, guests—they all had demands. Water, tea, extra cushions, misplaced jewelry—every issue seemed to find its way to her.
