The morning air was still, thick with the kind of quiet that made every step feel like it echoed louder.
Y/N checked the clock again—10:36 AM.
Her hands trembled slightly as she tucked her dupatta tightly around her. She stepped into the kitchen, voice steady.
“Amma, I’ll just go drop off the fabric to the tailor. He said he’ll have it ready before evening.”
Her mother didn’t even look up from her tea. “Be quick. Guests may drop in later.”
As if guests were more important than daughters.
Y/N didn’t respond. She walked out. Quiet. Unnoticed.
---
By 11:02, she was at the park.
The same bench. The same gulmohar tree.
And then—
A tiny laugh. A blur of a boy running across the grass.
“Mumma!”
Y/N knelt down, arms wide, catching him with the kind of warmth that had been stolen from her every day since her wedding.
She breathed him in like prayer.
Ravi stood nearby, giving them space. Respecting what little she had.
The boy showed her a leaf that looked like a butterfly. Told her a dream he had. Asked when she’d come home again.
Y/N swallowed hard.
“Soon,” she whispered, knowing she was lying. Again.
But she didn’t want to ruin this sliver of joy.
Then—
A car door slammed.
She turned.
And her heart stopped.
Taehyung.
Standing at the park gate.
Not alone.
His driver was a few steps behind, confused. Watching.
Y/N’s body froze around her son. Her lips parted—but no words came.
Taehyung walked toward them slowly, every step heavy with fury he was trying to contain.
The boy looked up at him innocently. “Is he coming to play too?”
Y/N forced a smile, voice barely a whisper. “Why don’t you go show Ravi your leaf, hmm?”
The boy nodded and skipped off.
The second he was out of earshot, Taehyung’s voice dropped like a blade.
“You think I’m a joke?”
“Please,” she whispered quickly, stepping between him and the child, “don’t do this. Not here. Not in front of him.”
“You said this was over. You promised me.”
“I said nothing,” she said, tears building. “You assumed everything.”
He grabbed her arm roughly, yanking her a few steps away from the bench. “Who is he? Tell me right now.”
She winced as his fingers pressed into the bruise that hadn’t healed. “Let go.”
“No. You’ve been running around like a saint. While I’m being made a fool? You sneak out like some cheap liar and think I won’t find out?”
“I’m begging you—don’t do this here,” she said, her voice cracking now. “Not in front of him. I’ll tell you whatever you want, just… not here.”
