Author's Pov:

The quiet hum of the city filtered through the thick glass of Vikram's office window. Skyscrapers stretched into the misty London sky, their silhouettes sharp against the fading light. But none of it held Vikram's attention. His eyes were fixed on the reflection staring back at him—sharp-suited, composed, cold. The image everyone believed. But inside, something restless stirred.

He leaned back in his chair, fingers tapping rhythmically against the edge of his desk. Today had been too quiet. Anu hadn't texted. Not even a reminder about Arjun's books or school snacks. That silence gnawed at him. She had been distant lately. Too distant.

He hated it.

He pulled open a drawer and retrieved a small velvet box. Inside, a delicate bracelet rested—gold, understated. He had picked it up the week before. For her. No reason. Just because. She used to love surprises like this once. Before she started looking at him like he was a prison and not a man.

His jaw tightened.

He turned when the knock on the door came.

"Come in," he said flatly.

His assistant, Darla, stepped in. "Sir, Mr. Matthews from legal is here. You asked to see him urgently."

"Send him in."

The moment the older man entered, Vikram's demeanor sharpened. "Matthew, I want updates. All of them."

Mr. Matthew nodded, sliding a folder across the desk. "We've tracked everything. The man Anu reacted to his name is Kian Mercer. Finance sector. Your wife and he went to the same school and college. Currently under a private firm doing mergers. But here's the twist... he's been working at our London office for the past couple of years. Moved around quietly, kept a low profile. Temporarily assigned to our Edinburgh partnership for now, but technically, he's been under our nose all along."

Assigned here.

Assigned.

Vikram's mind was a storm now. Same school? But wait same college? How did he missed that?

"He's not a threat on paper. But the way Anu reacted—"

"—tells me everything I need to know," Vikram finished, voice low and dangerous.

His stare dropped to the file. There was a photo of the man clipped to the top. Kian.

He couldn't recognized him from their past no matter how hard he tried to recall. How come he ignored it and why didn't he react at all after seeing her. When she created a chaos.

'Did they had any relationship behind his back?' He clenched his jaw when this disgusting thought crossed his mind, closing his eyes in displease he shook his head to clear those thoughts. He feels like his mind will explode if he don't get the answers soon.

And she's not helping either by not opening her damn mouth.

Hell will come upon them if he found out she cheated on him, but then a tiny part inside him denies the accusation. Sure enough, she always tries to escape him in the past as if someone will come and get her from him. He had always wondered who she used to look at like that.

And now he knew.

"Keep eyes on him. Discreet. I don't want him near her and..." Vikram said darkly, "also find out why he behaved as if he didn't know her at all while my wife created a scene." His jaw clenched even thinking about that moment.

"Understood, sir."

When Matthew left, he let out a long breath, his shoulders still rigid.

He wasn't stupid. He had seen how Anu trembled the night she saw Kian. Not out of fear. But something more dangerous.
