"Jess?" Caleb's voice said from the other end of the line.
I couldn't get the words out of my mouth.
"Jess, are you okay?" He asked. "Whats wrong?"
"I-I need to see you right now," I struggled to keep my voice from shaking. "Can I come over?"
"Yeah. I'll come walk you over if you want. Is that okay?"
"Yup."
I stared at my phone as the line went dead. Someone was out to get me. And I don't think it's April. It's someone else.
My phone buzzed again. I was hesitant about it reading it, but I did.
You and you boyfriend are goners
I'm coming for you
I advise you sleep with one eye open
Or you might not wake up from this nightmare
There was a knock at my door and I jumped.
"Hey, Jess. It's me!" Caleb's muffled voice shouted from the other side.
I took a deep breath in and ran downstairs.
"Are you okay?"
"I need to show you something," I replied. I realized his parents car was gone. "Are you home alone?"
"Just me, you, and Annie."
We walked into his house and down to his room. I showed him the text messages. His eyes scanned my screen, and as serious as this situation was, I gotta say, the way the light was reflecting off his eyes was just making him that much hotter than he is already.
"So," I asked. "What do you think of them?"
"Do you want to sleep over?" He asked. Some response.
"Are you scared?"
"I want to protect you, Jess." He said, seriously. "If I didn't have you, I don't know what I'd do. If we broke up, I'd probably go crazy. I don't want you to get hurt. It would be my fault that you get hurt. It's my fault your stuck in this situation."
"No, it's not. Stop beating yourself up about it. It could have happened if I dated someone else."
"Yes, it is my fault. This person wants you dead, Jess. If I hadn't broken up with April, and had just stuck to being friends, you would be safe."
"Caleb," I held his face in my hands. "I don't know could bare seeing you hurt everyday because April kept tearing you down. Don't worry about me, okay? I'll be fine, as long as I have you."
"I love you. And, I don't want what we have to ever disappear. You are my first, true love. I can't imagine life without you, but promise me, you'll be safe with that person out there."
I smiled. This is exactly the type of person I'd hope to find here. "Promise."
I said down next to him on his bed and he wrapped his arm around me, tightly, as if he were holding in for his life.
"Who sent them?" Caleb suddenly asked.
"What?"
"The messages."
"I don't know, they came from an anonymous number. It could be anyone," I told him.
"Here," he responded. "Give me the number."
I held out my phone and it took it out of my hands. I watched him intently as a stared from my screen to his screen.
Something wasn't right with the whole situation. He set down my phone, but kept staring down at his. His breathing was soft, but I could here it starting to become faster, and shorter.
"Caleb?" I asked. His grip tightened on his phone. "Caleb, are you okay?"
"She wouldn't," he muttered, shaking his head in disbelief.
"Caleb!" I shouted. "What's wrong?"
"I-I know who sent you these messages."
"Who?"
"Halle Robertson," he said. "She was, my first girlfriend I ever had. I just, never loved her enough to keep her. Apparently she had the same thoughts though, because after a week she broke up with me."
"Then why would she send these threats if she's the one who broke up with you?"
"I don't know why, but I'm going to find out." He grabbed his jacket from hanging off his bed, and put his phone in his pocket.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm finding her."
"I'm coming too."
"No, I don't want you getting hurt," he protested. "Please stay here. I need someone to watch Annie."
I was about to open my mouth when the front door opened and I heard Hayley's voice shouting from upstairs.
"You got your people, now. I'm coming with you," I said stubbornly. "And I won't take no for an answer."
"Fine."
"Thank you, now where does she live?"
"Around the corner," Caleb replied. Then her muttered something under his breath, but I could just make out what he was saying. "She's going to pay for this."
That's when I realized Caleb wasn't just going there to confront her. He was going to threaten her, just like she did to me. And by the looks of the determination sketched in his face, there was no stopping him, either.
So, cliffhanger, sort of. I kinda got off topic at the end, but I'll make it up to you. And, for all of you who thought it was April........its not.......or is she just working with the other person??????? You'll have to wait and see....
Also, I want to know your opinions on making a sequel to this story, because I need to know where and when I should end it if you want a sequel to this story. Please tell me your thoughts on it in the comments, and I hope you enjoyed!!! :)
