CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE. Tough kid.

RAIDEN ROMANO.

The night his parents died.

It's midnight when Emery barges into my room "Raiden! Raiden!" I jerk up at the panic in his voice "What?" I snap.
"Uncle Dean- he's here!" Emery rushes out.
I jump out of bed "For fuck's sake." I curse, grabbing my gun when I hear chaos errupt downstairs.
Emery watches me with wide eyes.
I grab his arm and slip out of my room, dragging him along to the spiral staircase, Theo comes running down the hall "Shit's hitting the fan man!" he calls out to me "Wrenley!" I shout back at him, my heart pounding against my ribcage, he nods before he hurries off.
I usher Emery down the staircase untill we reach a metal door, I put in the code and shove Emery inside before I pause.
I walk up to him and kneel down, grabbing his hands when I notice the tears that threaten to escape his eyes "Listen to me kid. Do not come out. Not when guns are blazing, not when it's dead silent. You got that?" Emery stares at me, zoning out.
"Emery!" I snap, he blinks "You got me??" he nods.
I squeeze his hands and stand up, ruffling his hair "I love you Em."
He shakes his head quickly "Don't say that Raiden."
"You're a Romano Emery, do not forget." I command before I shut the metal door and slam my gun against the code panel until power cuts off to it.
I rush back up the spiral staircase, down the hall then slow down when I reach the stairs, people are screaming, running, there's blood, gunshots, dropping bodies.
I take out my phone, putting it to my ear while I walk downstairs, shooting anyone I don't recognize.
"You got Wrenley??" I question.
"Just got here." Theo responds.
I grab a guy from behind, twisting his head before a sickening crack sounds.
"Do not let anyone near that door." I order.
"I've got him Raiden." Theo promises.
I grit my teeth, pulling the trigger on my gun before I hang up.
I step over a body before walking through the dining room, I barge into Kane's office just as a shot sounds before a limp body slams into me, nearly knocking me down with it before I shove it off, glancing down I see Kane's dull eyes.
My gaze snaps up to meet Deans, he's standing over Kane's desk and raises his head at the gun in my hand before he looks back at my face "Been a long time.. nephew." he mocks.
I smile "Sure has." he opens his mouth again to speak but I lunge at him, throwing myself over the desk I send myself and Dean crashing to the floor, he curses, reaching for his gun, I kick it away before digging my knees into his ribs when his hands wrap around my neck to strangle me.
I don't pay attention as his mouth starts moving, instead I start slamming my gun down on his face until his grip on me loosens and eventually falls away when his body goes limp beneath me.
There's a clapping sound behind me "Well done babe." Kitana purrs.
"Cunt." I hiss before sending a bullet landing right between her eyes.
I rush to my feet and out of the office when I hear a gutteral scream, my mom.
When I reach the sound Kitana's father has my mom's head pressed against the wall, a knife nestled in the side of her neck, when he pulls it out blood splashes everywhere.
"No!" I growl, all that follows is the metal click of my trigger telling me it's empty, he laughs.
I throw my gun at his face, his head snaps back and into the wall, I rush at him, my hands wrapping around his throat, my thumbs digging into his windpipe "Ur daughter's cold Conner." I grit out.
A sharp pain in my side widens my eyes but it only fuels me as stab after stab I see life drain from his eyes along with it until I let his body drop to the floor.
Finally the building falls silent, a few of Kane's men run in, I turn to them "How the fuck could this happen!" I yell out.

I sit on the spiral staircase, staring at the metal door, attempting to keep my vision clear.
How do you tell a kid his parents are dead?
That his mom got stabbed to death?
"Em? It's me, come out now." I speak up.
The door unlocks from inside before Emery cautiously peeks out, I pat the space next to me on the steps.
He catches me off guard when he bodyslams into me, hiding his face in my shoulder, my side protests but I hold my breath.
I freeze for a moment before patting his back gently "Hey." I say calmly.
"Ur bleeding." he points out, I smile.
"Just some scratches." I tell him.
He looks at the tears in my shirt "You need to go to the hospital Raiden." he says, concern etched in his words.
I shake my head "Sit down."
He finally does.
I sigh as I look at him, at that expectant look in his eyes.
"Kane's dead." I decide to be blunt.
He doesn't react much, just nods slowly before he raises his head to meet my gaze "Mom..?"
For the first time in my life I struggle to hold eyecontact, my lip twitches.
"She's dead, isn't she?" he whispers.
I tilt my head to the side, rubbing the dried blood on my hands as I nod "Mhm."
I hear him swallow before he stands up and walks up the spiral staircase, he pauses at the top "It's not your fault, you know?" he says, his voice breaks but he keeps it together, when I don't awnser he walks away.
"Tough kid." I force myself to smile.

I sit at Kane's desk, watching as people hurry around, dragging Dean, Kane and Kitana's bodies out at my order.
Theo knocks on the open door before stepping inside, his lips press in a tight line as he looks at me "You ready for this?"
I look at him "Ready for?"

Theo shrugs "You're in charge now Raiden."
