CHAPTER 4.6 - ABSOLUTE FINALE

CHAPTER 4.6

Absolute finale

 Days began to go by, weeks passing since that dream David had. He never brought it up again, instead, he just went on with his life. The faces of those he knew remained unchanged. However, in recent events, he noticed people going missing, the three choir children and some of the village's guardians. Everyone was confused as to why they would suddenly disappear, but nobody had an answer to that. Satoru suggested that they might've gone in the forest late at night to get water from the new well and ended up getting attacked by the wolves. That was more than enough for the majority of people to stop questioning it and move on. One of those people was also David, who would also listen to whatever Satoru had to say. He trusted Satoru more than anyone in the whole wide world.

-"Dave, could you go out with the sheep today?" asked Satoru. David stopped sculpting the wood and looked at him confused.

-"Wasn't it your turn today?" asked David. Satoru sighed.

-"Yes, but I'm busy making food and cleaning around today... You'd be of great use if you did!" replied Satoru. David sighed and set his tools aside.

-"Alright, I'll go then.." murmured David. Satoru smiled softly.

-"Thanks! You are the best!" said Satoru. David picked up his straw hat and wooden rod and left the house. He got to the barns and got the sheep out, guiding them towards the field.

Once there, David sat down in the same spot he usually does, under the shadow of an old tree. He sighed and looked at the sheep, listening to their bells ring and their sheep noises as the morning sun rays caressed them. David found himself wondering off in thoughts as he listened to the wind whisper and the grass dance to the wind's demand. The sheep weren't leaving David's side, allowing him to look around and admire the views.

As David kept looking around, bored, he heard what seemed to be the hisses of a snake. He looked around and eventually found it, however it wasn't alone, it had another snake's dead body tied up to him, looking like the result of a fight. The snake looked David in his eyes, almost like he was begging for someone to help him. David slowly moved further away from the snake.

-"Don't go away! Mortal, please, help me." said the snake. David looked at him shocked and immediately got off the boulder he was sitting on, looking at the snake confused and terrified.

-"Be not afraid, I just need someone to help." continued the snake. David looked at it a bit skeptical, but decided to help it nonetheless. He wasn't gonna let a poor, talking reptile stuck like that. David lowered himself to the snake's level and slowly began to undo the tie.

-"Thank you, friend. For that, I shall repay you." said the snake. Before David could respond, the snake wrapped itself around one of David's arms, biting him hard, poisoning him before making its way up David's sleeve. He screamed and tried to get the snake off of him, however it was too late, instead, he just focused on trying to get the poison out but he didn't know how, since he knew sucking would direct the poison back in his body. David decided that it would be best if he just rushed back home and got help from Satoru.

As he was running down the hill, he could feel himself getting weaker, he looked down at the bite, noticing his skin getting a bit purple, affected by the poison. Fortunately, David managed to get home, despite hardly seeing and struggling to keep himself together.

-"S-Satoru! Satoru, where are you!? Satoru, I need you!" screamed David with a weak voice. He began looking around the house before leaning against the kitchen counter. The snake made its way up to David's forehead, wrapping itself around it. David tried to fight it off but to no avail, he closed his eyes, still leaning against the counter and struggling to keep himself together. He closed his eyes and soon enough felt something heavy covering his eyes as well.
