The legend begins in the 18th century with a mansion at 50 Berkeley Square, often referred to as "The Haunted House of Berkeley Square." The house was originally home to a wealthy family, but it is said that the house became cursed after they mysteriously disappeared.

Over time, the house gained a reputation for being haunted. But the real terror came from the creature said to inhabit it - a strange, nameless entity that would haunt the rooms and corridors of the mansion. The creature was described by witnesses (few of whom survived the encounter) as an inhuman being, something that could not be properly explained, with terrifying characteristics: tall, skeletal, and shrouded in darkness.

The most infamous part of the legend is the story of two men who allegedly entered the house in the mid-19th century. One of them was said to have gone insane from the horror he witnessed and never spoke of it again, while the other died from fright after seeing the creature in the house. Their encounters were so traumatic that some accounts suggest that they were the last known individuals to have survived an encounter with the Nameless Thing.
