Once they reached the office, Naina yelled at the security guards, "Lock all the gates and call the police and all of our bloody bodyguards here! There's a rumour and-and the protest---"
"Ramesh," Ahanay cut through her noise, commanding Ramesh to present himself. "Prepare the helicopter to land on the helipad. Take Naina to the airport and fly her to my villa in Mauritius."
"What? I don't want to vacation while you'll get lynched by a mob!"
"Nobody's getting lynched," he said spitefully, fisting his hands that were still cuffed to the chair. The guards were already trying to free him without asking a single question. "You will stay at that villa till we can get your visa and fly you to Europe."
"I'm not going anywhere without you!"
"You will," he declared, twisting his wrists as the guards cut the cuff open with a saw. "I want you to be safe."
"If I'm here, I can help you. I can speak to the protestors, clear any misunderstandings. They're my people."
"The mob doesn't hear anyone," he said, getting up from the chair. "The minute you married and chose to stay with me, they stopped considering you one of them. You're mine."
"Then why don't you come with me?" Naina pleaded, holding his hand that was called into a tight, angry fist. "Let's run away together and figure this out later."
"I can't leave my people at risk here," he said in determination, his eyes sparkling of a malice that Naina didn't know her husband was capable of.
"Similarly, I can't leave you!"
Grabbing her wrist forcefully, Ahanay dragged her to the last floor of his office building and pushed her to an empty office room. "You'll stay locked here till the helicopter arrives. I want no trouble, do you understand?" To her horror, he retrieved the blindfold that she had purchased for their sexual excitement. "I'm going to tie just your hands so I know you won't follow me."
"No, you can't do this. You wouldn't!" She shouted and tried to escape, but he quickly picked her by her waist and forcefully made her sit by the window. She squirmed and struggled hard against his hold, nearly forgetting that he was her husband and kicking him in his shins, but Ahanay was fast to recover. "I'm your wife, you monster! Not a hostage!"
Swiftly and securely, he tied her hands to the window grill. "Trust me, I'm doing this for our own good. I can't see you getting hurt." He kept her phone securely in her hands, instructing, "You can call Ramesh by pressing the emergency button anytime. If you want anything, call him."
The Ahanay in front of her was the CEO Ahanay, not the husband who humored and loved her. Before Naina could protest further, they heard the sound of rushing footsteps.
"Sir, sorry," Ramesh said, breathlessly hurrying towards them. "The helicopter hasn't been serviced since a long time, it's not safe to use it right now."
"Damn it, how long will it take it get it running?"
"Some time, sir. Should I arrange for cars for Naina madam?"
"No, travelling by ground is not safe---" As if on cue, they heard loud echoes of eerie, fiery protests, chanting modified slogans from Indian independence to match the rumored scenario. "Let's go, Ramesh."
"Ahanay, please," she said, trying to claw at the tight tie around her wrists. "Don't leave me alone."
"Come, Ramesh," he commanded, ignoring her as he stormed away.

"I want no trouble, do you understand?" The echo of those words like those of a parent towards a child made Naina deeply ashamed of her predicament. Last time, the protest had started and escalated because of her. This time, Ahanay didn't want to take any risks, but didn't trust her enough to be beside him. She felt like a little pet, a nuisance during work, a playmate during free time.
