Thomas can hear the Cranks outside of the building the rest of the Gladers were hiding in. Buy he could here a women singing very softly:
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree?
And for some reason, that song sounded oddly familiar to him. As if,
Someone had sung it to him. As he drift off to sleep. The visions of his mother came to his subconscious. She was cradling him in her arms. As if he was still a baby. His mother singing that song to him.
