The first rays of dawn filtered through the lighthouse's circular windows, casting long golden beams across the dormitory floor. Twilight Sparkle was already stirring, her methodical nature compelling her to rise before the others. She stretched her limbs, her lavender coat catching the morning light as she quietly made her way toward the bathroom.
"Morning already?" mumbled Dinky, her horn glowing faintly as she rubbed sleep from her eyes. The young unicorn filly's mane was tousled in all directions, evidence of a restless night during the storm.
From the adjacent bed, Ditzy Doo yawned widely, her wings extending in an instinctive stretch. One of her eyes drifted slightly, giving her that characteristic look as she blinked away sleep. "Is it my turn for the bathroom yet?" she asked, voice still thick with drowsiness.
"Twilight's in there," Dinky replied, sitting up and attempting to smooth down her mane with a hoof, "and you know how she is with her morning routine."
Time Turner was already at the edge of his bed, meticulously folding his blanket with practiced precision. "Exactly three minutes and forty-five seconds," he announced, glancing at the pocket watch that never left his side, even at night. "That's how long she'll take. Always consistent, that mare."
Across the room, Pipsqueak remained curled up in his blankets, only the black and white pattern of his coat visible among the rumpled bedding. Despite the growing commotion, he seemed determined to cling to whatever dream was keeping him captivated.
"Pip?" Dinky called out, trotting over to nudge her friend. "Come on, sleepyhead. We've got lots to do today."
The young pinto colt mumbled something incoherent before reluctantly opening his eyes. He looked disoriented, almost confused to find himself in the lighthouse dormitory.
The bathroom door clicked open, and Twilight emerged with her mane neatly brushed, looking refreshed and organized. "All yours," she announced to the room at large.
"Me next!" Ditzy declared, but Time Turner was already halfway to the door.
"I calculated the optimal timing," he explained, slipping past her with an apologetic smile. "I need exactly four minutes to properly clean my teeth."
Ditzy rolled her misaligned eyes good-naturedly. "Always with the numbers, Time Turner."
While they waited their turns, Dinky helped Pipsqueak up, noticing the troubled look in his eyes. "Bad dream?" she whispered, but the colt merely shrugged, avoiding her gaze.
When Time Turner finally emerged from the bathroom, precise to the second of his prediction, Ditzy darted in before anypony else could move. Her cheerful humming could be heard through the door as she brushed her teeth, occasionally punctuated by the sound of something falling over.
"Try not to flood the place again!" Dinky called out with a laugh, earning a muffled protest from her sister.
Pipsqueak remained unusually quiet, shuffling toward the window to gaze out at the churning sea. The storm from the night before had passed, but dark clouds still lingered on the horizon, promising more to come.
By the time they had all taken their turns—Ditzy leaving the bathroom slightly damper than she'd found it, Dinky spending extra time getting her mane just right, and Pipsqueak barely doing more than splashing water on his face—the smell of breakfast was wafting up from below.
They descended the spiral staircase in single file, hooves clopping against the stone steps as they made their way down to the foundation of the lighthouse. The cozy kitchen area came into view, where Sea Salt, was already setting out plates. A pipe was clenched between his teeth, trailing aromatic smoke that mingled with the scent of freshly baked biscuits and herbal tea.
