"She's so cute!" I said while hugging the new dog Kalon had. "You thought of a name yet?"
I finished my first class as a senior and went straight to my boyfriend's condo because he told me his dog was finally coming that day. I had been excited the whole week, akala mo ako 'yong magkakaroon ng bagong aalagaan, e.
"Dibo," Kalon said.
"Dibo?" I smiled. "I've never heard a name like that."
Umupo sa tabi ko si Kalon para laruin din ang puppy. "Galing siya kay Debussy, Claude Debussy."
"Ohh," I realized. That's my boyfriend, the pianist.
"Dibo," tawag niya sa aso. It went to him and smelled him.
The dog was a terrier, though, I wasn't sure what kind. Sobrang baby pa at inaalam pa ang kabuuan ng condo ni Kalon. Kaya, lakad lang ito nang lakad. Inaamoy minsan ang mga gamit ni Kalon, pero nagpapatuloy sa pagdiskubre ng bago niyang bahay.
"Dibo," malamyos kong tawag sa aso. At parang alam niya na agad na pangalan niya 'yon dahil lumapit siya sa akin. "So cute!"
Kalon stood up. "Are you hungry, love? I'm going to make tuna pasta, do you want some?"
"Sure." I played with the puppy.
My classes ended early today since the first day was just about introductions and class rules. Niyaya nga ako ng mga kaibigan kong lumabas, e, kaso talagang gusto kong makita ang aso ni Kalon. Maki always had my heart because he was my dog, but little puppies just activate my cuteness aggression so much.
"How was your first day?" Kalon was slicing up onions when he asked me.
I stood up and walked towards him. "Uneventful. Niyaya ako nina Dom lumabas, but I really wanted to see Dibo." I looked down and saw the dog on my feet. "Right, little buddy?"
"Wow, si Dibo talaga? Hindi man lang ako?" ani Kalon.
I smiled and held his face so that we could look at each other. Then, I kissed his cheek. "Of course, you too."
Ngumiti siya at nagpatuloy sa ginagawa. Ako naman ay umupo sa upuang katabi niya at kinuha ang laptop. I opened it and looked at my e-mail, baka may mga posts na ang mga profs namin ng mga syllabus; sabi nila mamayang after class nila ipo-post, e, para makapag-advance read na kami ng mga readings. Tiningnan ko rin ang mga nag-send ng partnerships sa isang org kung saan isa na ako sa mga head.
"Meadow Jil," umangat ang ulo ko at nakitang nasa kitchen area na si Kalon. "Paabot no'ng tuna."
Tumayo ako at kinuha ang bowl of tuna, saka ko inabot 'yon sa kaniya. Lumapit ako at naamoy ang garlic na may halong tomatoes and onions. Smelled better when the tuna came in. Ang noodles ay niluluto na rin ni Kalon. Hinawi-hawi niya ang mga sahog at hinalo rin ang noodles.
"I'll do the noodles na," I said and took the utensil from him.
He let me help. Dibo came to us, circling both of us. Binuhat siya ni Kalon at pinatingin sa aming niluluto. "Gusto mo?" tanong niya sa aso.
The puppy squirmed in his hands and tried to go to the boiling water of the noodles. Hinalikan ni Kalon ang ulo nito at ibinaba ulit. We finished cooking and ate while talking about random things.
"How's the review going?" I asked about his NMAT review.
"Okay naman. My classmates were shocked when they found out ang aga ko mag-review."
