Madeline-
I heard Meredith's soft knock on my bedroom door before I was fully awake.
"Your Highness..." Her voice was muffled; I couldn't make out the rest of her sentence with sleep clinging to my brain.
"What?" I groaned, barley managing to pry open one eye.
"I'm here to get you ready for work?" She said, but it sounded more like a question.
I closed my eyes again, just a minute. I just needed to move my legs and walk to the door, and use the lock. Get out of bed. Walk to the door. Unlock it.
Wait
Who locked my door?
My eyes flew open.
"Oh my god," I shouted, sitting straight up and accidently, knocking Draco's arm off my chest.
"Princess Madeline? Are you alright?" Meredith called through the door.
"I-um, just one second!" I shouted before immediately dropping my voice and whispered. "Draco wake up,"
"What?" He mumbled, voice thick with sleep.
I slapped a hand over his mouth. "SH! Meredith is at the door."
His eyes snapped open. "What? I slept here?" He asked, voice slightly muffled beneath my palm.
"Yes, you slept here." I hissed, "Now, what the hell are we going to do?"
He looked down at my hand still covering his mouth, one brow arched.
"Oh-Sorry," I whispered, pulling it back.
"Your highness! You're going to be late!" Meredith shouted, my anxiety spiked.
"Where's your wand?"
"Fuck, I left it in my room last night. I thought I was going to sneak out again." He whispered.
I blinked at him. "ARE Y-" This time he covered my mouth with his hand.
"You can yell at me later, right now I need to hide." Draco hissed, I glared at him before sticking my tongue out and licking the palm of his hand. He pulled his hand at me, shaking his head.
"Made-"
"We need to hide you, now!"
"Princess-"
"Just...just give me a minute Mer." I shouted, pushing Draco out of the bed. "You need to hide. If she sees then who knows who she'll tell my dad." He scrambled to put on his pants, trousers, and shirt as I grabbed my shorts and shirt, and I'm pretty sure that I was wearing this shirt inside out.
I searched my brain, trying to figure out where the hell I could hide a large, broad man in my room? "Closet, go in the closet."
"She could see me!"
"Trust me, my closet is huge, we have a better chance hiding you in there than anywhere else." I muttered, throwing open my closet door. My walk-in closet was lined with rows and rows of gowns, suits, trousers, shirts, everything I've ever worn in life.
"Pick a spot to hide." I said, before shutting the door in Draco's face.
I quickly soothed my features, before unlocking my door, and plastered the brightest smile on my face. "Hi Meredith, sorry I couldn't get out of bed, I had a bad...stomach cramp."
"It's okay, we really need to start getting you ready, we're already ten minutes behind."
I didn't respond, instead I let her guide me to the bathroom, babble on about the gossip running through the palace as she did my hair, did my hair in a longer than usually to do bun. I held my breathe when she entered my closet, but came back with nothing but my outfit for the day.
It took her almost 45 minutes till she finally finished, and I got her out of my room. "She's gone." I said, throwing open my closet door.
"Draco?" I shouted, walking down my row of suits. "Where did you go?"
"I'm here," He muttered, pushing his way out between two of my largest gowns.
"You really blended in," I said,
Draco smirked, "Well, when you have to sneak around Hogwarts every night for a year you kind of know how to hide."
"Draco-"
"I'm just messing with you." He laughed, his smile looking genuine. "Is she going to come back at all or am I in the clear?"
"She shouldn't be back."
"Good, I was pretty sure I was choking on something glittery." Draco ran a hand through his disheveled hair.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "That was a limited-edition dress. They only make around 4 a year."
"I'm just saying that much glitter, I'm probably going to be sparkling for the rest of the day."
I pursed my lips. "That wouldn't be horrible?"
"You try being in charge of over five hundred auror's and having glitter stuck to your face. They'll never listen to me."
I shrugged, "It's still a one-of-a-kind dress."
Draco held up his hands in surrender. "I'm just saying if I sparkle for the rest of the day, it's your fault."
I snorted, "Oh yes, the horror. Imagine being too pretty."
Draco tilted his head, that familiar smirk playing at his lips. "You think I'm pretty?"
I blinked, "I didn't say that."
"You heavily implied it."
"No, I didn't."
"You did." He took a step closer to me. "Say it."
"You're impossible." I let out a breathy laugh taking a step back.
"Yet," He closed the distances between us, "You keep letting me sneak into your bed."
"We're already late for work." I muttered, my cheeks burning. Draco smiled, rubbing his thumb of my cheek.
"Who can blame me? I've got a thing for stubborn princess who tend to sleep in, and wear their shirts inside out."
I glanced down at myself, "It's not inside out,"
He looked pointedly at the hem.
I groaned. "Damn it. It is. I can't believe we both didn't catch this."
"You're adorable." I felt my cheeks flush, but I didn't look away. He leaned down, his lips met mine in a kiss that was soft at first, unhurried, even though we were probably both going to be so late for work. He deepened, just slightly, his hand settling at the small of my back, and I forgot about Meredith, about the palace, about my fiancé, about time altogether.
When we finally pulled apart, breathless, I kept my forehead resting against his.
"You have to go," I said, even though I didn't move. "I have to go."
"I know,"
"Now."
"I know,"
But neither of us moved just yet.
