Young Hiccup blinked his eyes open, everything was blurry. He could barely make out a large man in the corner of the room, seemingly talking to a smaller figure. A pain struck down his left leg. He tried to wiggle his toes, but something felt off.
"They saved the village!" The other figure whisper-yelled.
"We have lived this way for —" Hiccups ears felt muffled, a light buzzing sound rang.
"He'll never forgive you." The other figures said warningly.
"I know." Stoic replied, somberly.
Hiccup tried to roll over but was met with another strike of pain.
"Son!" Stoic rushed over. The other figure stayed in the corner, dissapearing from Hiccups attention.
With the help of his father, Hiccup sat up. Revealing the difference at the end of his left leg. He exhaled heavily and looked to his father.
"I know. It's going to take a bit to adjust to." He tried to reassure his son.
"Where's Toothless?" Hiccups eyes snapped open, starting to remember the events that had lead to his situation. He looked optimistically to his dad. The look was not returned.
"We need to talk, son." Hiccups stomach dropped. "We- Uh- we thought it would be best if dragons did not live on Berk, son." The cheif could sense his sons discomfort. "I know you and your pet really helped the village, but having him around out us all in danger. I can't put our village in danger again." Stoic looked to his son. Hiccup didn't move.
Hiccup suddenly snapped back into motion. "We- we saved the village!" He huffed. He didn't know what to say. "Where is he?" He turned to his father. "Where is Toothless!" He demanded.
"He's still here. We wanted to give ya a chance to say goodbye."
"Goodbye!?" Hiccup anxiously ran his hands through his hair. Then he stopped. "How long do I have?" He asked calmly.
Stoic was taken aback by the sudden cooperation. "Until sunset." He finally revealed.
Hiccup looked out the window. It seemed to be about 11am, the sun would set around 6pm. Seven hours." Hiccup stood up, nearly falling right back down. Stoic helped him limp to his feet.
12pm:
"Can I come in?" A young girls voice sounded as a knock on Hiccups bedroom door came. Astrid walked through the frame. "Hey," she greeted gently. "I heard about everything."
Hiccup glanced up at her. He didn't say anything. Astrid joined him on the edge of his bed. "I don't get it, Astrid!" He finally cracked. "I thought he would see it! After everything he said when we were out there! I-I mean you all have your own dragons now!" He bursted out.
"We let them go." She spoke softly. "They're back in the wild now, where they belong. Maybe that's where Toothless belongs too?" She suggested. She quickly took note of Hiccups face. "Or- or maybe not." She tried to correct herself. "Look, I know you two have a great bond. But I feel, maybe your dad has a point."
They were both silent for a moment.
"I really hoped you would be different." He looked at her. "I probably should have known better."
