"Good afternoon, son" Stoick ruffled Hiccups hair.
He didn't move.
"Son?" Stoick grabbed his shoulder and shook the young man.
He didn't move.
"Son?" He repeated, louder and with more panick.
He didn't move.
"Hello-"
"Astrid! Go get Gothi! Now!" Stoick bellowed to Astrid the second she stepped through the door, immediately running back out.
"Gothi!" Astrid puffed. "Please we need you there's something wrong with Hiccup!" She urged. People around them stopped and pretended to work as they evedropped on the latest update on the chiefs son.
Astrid and Gothi ran back to the Haddocks hut - well Gothi more of a hobble, but as fast of a hobble as she could muster up.
As soon as they entered the hut, Stoick stepped away from his son. Astrid didn't know if she was more concerned about Hiccup because he wasn't responding or more concerned at the fact that she had never seen Stoic like this, meaning it couldn't possibly be good.
The pair stood a comfortable distance back as Gothi performed her analysis.
Gothi shook him and mumbled nonsense loudly at him, with no reply. She then made her way down his body to his leg - or lack there of. She removed his peg leg and returned to his head height. Astrid and Stoic stood back in confusion. What was she doing with his leg? Was that good or bad? Before they could question any further, Gothi raised the wooden end of the leg and whacked him right in the crook of his neck.
"Ahhhhhh!" Hiccup shot up. Immediately slamming himself back down on the couch and clutching his arm into him, rolling onto his side. "What the fuck!?" He questioned as he gained consciousness.
"Hiccup!" Stoic and Astrid rejoiced.
Astrid ran to Hiccups side and cupped her hand on his cheek. "Gothi what happened?"
Gothi responded to the young woman with her scribbles, in the same pile of sand she had left in her previous visits. 'When someone experiences an extreme level of pain it can cause them to faint. This paired with a highly likely brain knock from when he crashed. They whack woke him up because everyone has certain pressure points, including in their shoulder' (true fact btw, often used by paramedics, the knuckles on the chest and pinching of the shoulders to help wake someone up)
Astrid turned to look at Hiccup. He looked so tired. "Babe, maybe you should try to have something to eat?" She suggested. Gothi nodded in approval before wandering out the door, leaving Hiccup with no treatments.
Hiccup sat up on the couch and leaned down to reattach his leg. Astrid started to put together and sandwich for him when she felt two warm arms snake around her waist. "I'm so tired." He whispered as he rested his chin on her shoulder.
"You can't go to sleep yet. We need to make sure you'll wake up next time." She replied. Hiccup picked at the food infront of Astrid, still leaning on her. She couldn't decide if it was because he wanted to be close to her or was just not stable enough to stand on his own. She figured it was the latter but let him give off the illusion that it was the former. Astrid eyed Stoic who came over and put an arm under his son, helping him up to his room.
Astrid poured a cup of water and the remainder of his food and followed the Haddocks.
Hiccup collapsed (consciously) onto his bed and Astrid sat down beside him.
"Look after him lass." Stoic whispered and Astrid nodded.
Barely minutes had passed before Snotlout burst into the hut. "Hiccup!"
"Snotlout what's wrong?" Astrid questioned, pushing snotlout away from the room.
"They're attacking!" He exclaimed. "We need Hiccup!" He sounded as if he had run there.
"He's not well! We can take them!" Astrid ran back over to Hiccup. "You stay here." She instructed quietly. "I love you." She kissed him on the forehead.
"Come back to me M'lady." He whispered back. She let a small smile crack before running out the door.
—(time skip)—
"Stormfly! Spineshot!" The dragon whipped large shards at Viggos ship. (I didn't know who to bring back please bare with me mb) The spines did little damage the the huge ship.
They launched a weighted net. "Snotlout!" Astrid screamed as the net landed on Hookfang and Snotlout causing them to fall out of the sky. Astrid's attention returned back to the shots being fired at her, barely dodging a flying boulder.
Next was Fishlegs, riding Meatlug, who's slow speed was her downfall. "Ruff! Tuff! Get them from the other side!" Astrid instructed.
"Astrid look!" Ruff pointed at the fleet landing on the shores of Berk, making their way up the docks.
"You take them I've got this!" She shouted.
Astrid continued to dodge boulders, intermittently blasting the ship with fire and spines. Slowly, she made an impact. One final boulder was launched, but Stormfly wasn't quite fast enough. Astrid plummeted towards the earth, Stormfly managed to regain her stability in the sky but Astrid was too far away! She flew as fast as she could.
Astrid screamed as she realized Stormfly wasn't going to make it. She clenched her eyes shut waiting for the hard, cold impact that would ultimately take her.
She felt the impact. She was still alive? She slowly opened her eyes. Relief filled her previously dread filled stomach. "Cutting it a bit close don't you think?"
"You know I will always make it." Hiccup chuckled, dropping her back onto Stormfly. Toothless barrel rolled towards the ship shooting a plasma blast, finally exploding the ship.
"Hiccup you shouldn't be out here!" Astrid yelled out as they returned to Berk.
"I couldn't leave you M'lady!" He replied as they flew over the village that was already being destroyed.
The twins approached them. "We couldn't keep them at bay!" They announced sheepishly.
"That's okay. Where are the others?" Hiccup asked landing on a hill. He looked to Astrid. She didn't reply. "We'll get them back." He reassured. "Ok we need to protect Berk. Ruff, Tuff, you two focus on keeping those who aren't past the docks, on the docks. Astrid and I will get them back onto their ships." He planned. The rest of the group nodded along.
The three dragons shot off the hill with determination. Hiccup and Astrid fired warning shots at the soldiers. They pushed them back but the damage to peoples houses was nearing irreparable. Axes had been taken to walls and warning shots that missed and hit houses all contributed.
Hiccup and Astrid landed infront of the final man. Hiccup exposed his sword and Astrid her axe. "You can leave now or we can nudge you a little. It's up to you." Hiccup offered.
"I was suggest the former." Astrid commented snarkly.
"Hiccup they're retreating!" The twins announced just before coming into sight.
Toothless let out a low growl. The man drew back an arrow. As if in slow motion the man released his arrow. Hiccup helplessly watched it soar through the air and through Astrid's chest. The twins immediately swooped down. Tuff swung a fist at the man's face and Ruff tied his arms together behind his back, kneeling on his spine. The twins turned to look at Hiccup holding his impaled girlfriend.
"Don't leave me Astrid!" He pushed her fringe out of her face. "I love you Astrid." He sobbed, clutching her warm body.
"You should've stayed home." She forced out of her throat and Hiccup let out a sad chuckle.
