I sit on my couch watching TV, sipping a cup of Annie's special apple cider. It is the end of October, and getting colder everyday, but I'm not moping around for that reason. After I came home last night, Annie knew to leave me alone. But first thing this morning she came and questioned me on why I was so upset. She felt awful after I explained, but simply stated that I desperately needed to inform Madge. Thankfully Madge was away visiting family, but she'd be coming home today.

The tick of a clock and the hum of the TV fills the room, but other than that all is silent. Last night replays over and over in my head. How could I have been so stupid? Who acts like a jerk and then kisses me? And it all started out when we became partners in architecture.

I sit up as reality hits me. I still have to be partners with Gale for our project. No way  is that happening. I plan on never seeing Gale again if I can help it. I grab my laptop off the table and type up an email to my professor stating I request a new partner, or to work on my own. Without giving away what happened last night.

I hear the door open a shut, with a voice humming, and I know Madge is home. She plays with her blonde curls and jumps around gleefully into the living room.

"How was visiting your parents?" Annie asks from the kitchen, where she is putting away the apple cider.

"Oh just great. They're fine; city is fine. It was really nice seeing them." She waves it off like its no big deal. "Any of you want to help me unpack, and pick out an outfit for my date with Gale tonight? We're going somewhere special."

Annie exchanges an upset look with me. I look at the ground, so Annie clears her throat. "Yeah about that..."

"I'll come help you unpack in a few minutes." I butt in, giving Madge the best fake smile I can muster. "Perfect!" She replies, then rolls her suitcase into her room. We both smile nervously as she goes and shuts her door tight. The minute she is out of earshot Annie gives me a death glare.

"Hiding it from her won't make it any easier. She deserves to know. SOON!" Annie ridicules me.

"I know. I know. I will tell her, I promise. I just need to find the right time."

"You'd better do it before tonight, or else I will." Annie threatens with a glare, then goes to cleaning the dishes. Annie is always genuinely kind, and I know she just hates to see Madge get hurt.

How am I suppose to go to my roommate, my friend, and tell her that her boyfriend kissed me last night? I can't; I won't! It will break her heart. But I also know that keeping a secret like this from her would break her heart even more. She deserves to know what a monster Gale is.

I go back to watching TV for a few more minutes, but the nagging feeling at the back of my head just won't go away. It whispers over and over to warn her, help her. I close my eyes and try to concentrate on something else, anything else. But it's no use. Before I know it I leap of the couch and run to Madge's room, led there by an unseen conscious.

I knock gently on her door, and when I hear a soft "Come in" I push the door open. Madge's soft curls cover up her face, and she has her back turned from me, sorting the clean and dirty laundry.

I bend over by her and start organizing the hangers that are scattered throughout the room. "Hey, there's something I need to talk to you about." My voice says before I can stop it.

She turns around and raises her eyebrows. "Well you sound serious. Whacha need Kat?"

I bite my lip, not knowing how or where to start. I suck in a breath, and when I can't hold in in any longer, it all comes pouring out. "Last night I went on a date with Gale. And at the end of it he tried to forcefully kiss me."
