I walked toward my locker, my arms crossed over the books that were pressed to my chest. I stopped short of my locker when I saw Heath standing there, leaning against it. I took my cell phone out of my pocket and sent a quick text to Clawd.

"Burns. My locker. Help."

I slipped my phone back into my pocket and slowly walked forward. He turned his head and smiled when I got closer to my locker. I literally had to pry the kid off of my locker in order to open the door.

"Hey, hot stuff," Heath said loudly, trying to make sure everyone believed that I was now his. I rolled my eyes and grabbed my books, sliding them into my bag. Being who he was, he crossed his arms and moved about about a foot closer to me, putting an inch between him and myself. I saw Clawd out of the corner of my eyes as he made his way down the stairs.

"Hey, Burns. Give the lady some breathing room," Clawd said, grabbing him by his shoulder and pulling him back. "She's going to the dance with me this weekend. If that's alright with you," Clawd said as he backed Heath up against a locker, one arm extended so his hand was right next to Heath's hand. He did it to help me, but it looked like a war was about to breakout because of the anger in Heath's face. But, I knew it wouldn't because the anger dissolved into a look of horror.

"Sure, man. I'll leave you two alone. Ok?" Heath ducked away from Clawd and ran out the door. Clawd let out a rumble of laughter as he walked back toward me.

"That was interesting. Thanks for helping me out, there," I said with a smile on my face.

"You're welcome. Tomorrow is Saturday. I'll pick you up at your place at six. We can go get pizza since the dance starts at seven. My treat."

"That sounds great. So, what's wrong with your sister?" I asked as I walked out the door.

"Not much. Bad hair day, in reality. She spent an hour and a half in front of the mirror this morning until Mom kicked her out of the bathroom. She couldn't do her make-up, either. Too busy dealing with her hair," Clawd said, a slight laugh escaping him. "How do you live as a teenage girl?"

"Hmm?"

"That came out wrong. Uh, how is it that you can come to school with such confidence in the mornings not knowing what you look like? As a guy, I couldn't care less, but girls seem to care about their looks," he said, looking down at me.

"I wing it and hope that someone would tell me if I looked horrible. You know, like, if I were walking down the hall and I looked that bad, I would hope someone would just be like, 'Hey! You have some ugly on your face!' Plus, you do care about what you look like. I can tell you that much," I laughed slightly. He stopped a couple yards away from my house.

"I'll stop here so your dad doesn't see me. I don't want him to get mad at you for hanging out with a werewolf," Clawd said. He bent down to the point where his knees were almost on the ground so that he could be level with me. He reached out and pulled me into a tight hug before he stood up. "I'll send Clawdeen over here so you and her can go shopping. I know you girls can't wear the same outfit twice," he winked as he walked away. The way Clawd made me feel made it seem like my heart was actually beating like it used to. I felt like I was alive again. As the thought crossed my mind, I ran into the house, up the stairs, and into my personal bathroom. I looked in the mirror and my heart sank. No matter how alive Clawd had made me feel, I was still a vampire. Still was and always would be.
