"Just leave, Vlad! I don't want you here and neither does she!"
"I did nothing to her, Vladimir! She had a horrible attitude toward me! I was trying to talk sense into the girl!"
"And look where you made her end up! She's in another hospital bed, Vlad!"
"Stop arguing. Please."
"Hush it, wolf. No one needs, nor wants, your input."
"Just stop. Your niece, and your daughter, is in a hospital bed right now and you two are busy fighting about who put her there? Can I just go out on a limb here and say that if I had still been over there apse wouldn't be in here in the first place?" Silence.
"Listen, kid, I'm older than you, much older, and you will respect me. I don't care if you like me, but you must respect me. Do you understand?"
"Sure thing, sir. I do respect my elders, like every kid should, but, I'm asking that you show some respect for me, too. I may be a werewolf, but you're a vampire. It's the same thing, we're both monsters, you know? Just, um, grow up, I guess? I have no better way to say that, but I think you get my point."
"I get your point perfectly well, son. I'm not sure about Vlad, though. He doesn't seem to listen to anyone, right now," I slowly opened my eyes and looked around the room.
"There. She's awake. See? Perfectly fine."
"Shut up, Vlad," my father walked past him, basically pushing my uncle out of his way. He came up to me and sat down in the chair next to the bed. "How are you feeling?"
"Dizzy."
"Do you want anything? Water?" Clawd asked, sitting in a chair against the wall, his arms resting on his lap. I nodded slightly, the motion making my head spin a little. He stood up, walking towards the door. His hand brushed my arm as he walked past me.
"Where are we?" I asked, sitting up. Glancing around the room, I realized that I wasn't at Frankie's house. "Daddy? Where are we?" He looked at me before answering.
"Transylvania. I figured that since the whole thing happened because of the wolf and he didn't seem welcome at Veronica's last time that we would come here, instead."
"So, Clawd came all the way to Transalvania?" He nodded. "Away from school? Away from his family?" He shook his head and glanced up at the door. I followed his sight and saw Clawdeen standing at the door. Harriet and Clawrk came up behind her, as did the rest of her siblings. Clawd walked up behind all of them, pushing his way right between them. He sat down on the edge of the bed and handed me the glass of water. He pushed my bangs off of my forehead, tucking my hair behind my ears.
"We need to talk," my father said, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"About what, Daddy?"
"The doctor says that if you continue the little vegetarian deal, you'll eventually die. You'll get dizzy a lot and then you'll start fainting. You're getting weaker, Draculaura. And that's not healthy for you. Not healthy for a vampire. I can't lose you," his eyes sparkled with tears. I blinked rapidly as I tried to fight back my own. Clawd placed his hand on my cheek, his thumb wiping away the tears that leaked from my eyes.
"I can't just turn it down, now. I can barely stand the smell of meat. Or blood. I can't start eating it, or drinking it, again. It's disgusting, Daddy. I'm sorry."
"Laura, you are a vampire. It's hard for your body to accept a diet of purely fruits or vegetables," Clawd said, resting his hand on my arm.
"I thought you, of all monsters, were supposed to support me and my choices."
"I do. I... I just don't want to see you get hurt, anymore. I don't like how often you've to be in a hospital bed."
"Neither one of these hospital trips have been my fault. The first one, some guy stabbed me. This time, someone ran plate shards into my feet. I lost blood both times. That's why I'm in here. Not because I'm a vegetarian," Clawd and my father stared at each other, not sure where to go with the conversation. Not sure how they could win the argument.
"Fair enough, Draculaura. If you do run yourself straight into the ground with this, it's your own fault, because we tried to warn you," my uncle said, looking at my father rather than me.
"And I'm completely aware of it. Vegetarianism is healthier for humans than the typical meat diet. You know? In reality, I would live longer than you guys if I were still human and if you two were, too. Just so you're aware," silence. That was my reply. The silence of all the people in the room. They all looked at me before they broke eye contact, looking out a window, down at the floor, at a wall, around the corner. I almost felt scared.
