"Mom, can you check her again? Please?"

"She's fine, Frankie. It's hard to tell with a vampire, but her chest is moving. She's breathing."

"Isn't breathing a bad thing? She's a vampire, she doesn't need to breathe. Right?"

"She does it out of habit, Clawd."

"When will she wake up?" There was a long pause before I heard anyone say anything again. "She will wake up, right?"

"I can't really know for sure, Clawd. She should, but...... We'll see what happens. Has anyone called her father? Normally he'd be over ready to kill whoever hurt her."

"I'll do it," I knew the voice came from Frankie's father, but I still couldn't open my eyes.

"I'm going to go down and stand by the door so Dracula doesn't bust it down when he gets here. Frankie, come on."

"Just wake up, Laura. Come on," Clawd's gentle voice whispered. I tried so hard to open my eyes, show some sign that I could hear them, that I was, in fact, awake, but, nothing worked.

"Get away from her!" My father shouted, walking into the room. My ears picked up on the sound Clawd made when he hit the wall. "You given her blood?"

"No," Frankie's mom said quietly.

"Do it, now! You're killing my daughter!" I was almost certain that my father was more concerned about what other people had been doing than he was about me.

"You can't give her blood. She's a vegetarian. You're just going to make her sick," Clawd said strongly. I heard the air that was created by my father rushing back at Clawd.

"Stop it," I heard myself whisper. I was finally able to open my eyes. I watched Clawd run toward me, jumping over the bed and to my right side while my father took over the left. He wrapped his arms around me, hitting Clawd's arm away from my hand.

"Are you ok, Draculaura? What happened?" My father's deep voice questioned, even his whisper was as loud as my normal speaking voice.

"I don't know what happened," I said quietly, my voice little more than a whisper. I tried to bring my hand up to my head but Clawd gently grabbed my arm and pulled it back down to the bed. I turned my slightly to look at Clawd, ignoring the pain that shot through the back of my head. "Where's Clawdeen?"

"Sleeping downstairs. Veronica told her she needed to rest, as did you," Clawd said quietly, running his fingers through my hair. It took almost three minuets for it to click that Veronica was Frankie's mom. "Did you want me to get her for you?" I tried to nod my head but found that it causes even more pain.

"Could you?" He nodded and got up. I watched him walk out of the room, my eyes landing on my father.

"You got a thing for the wolf, now?" I was shocked, really. I almost died, well, re-died, and my father only wanted to know if I was dating a werewolf? "I expect an answer, Draculaura," he crossed his arms, impatiently waiting for my reply.

"No," it was all I could force out of myself. I wasn't exactly lying to him, but I wasn't exactly telling him the whole truth either. Clawdeen ran into the room and jumped on the bed, landing softly next to me.

"Be careful, Clawdeen. Watch her stitches," Veronica said from the door. Clawdeen nodded, tears forming in her eyes. It looked like she had been crying for hours before that.

"Are you ok?"

"I'm fine... I think. Do you know what happened?" She nodded. "Can you explain it? Please?" She bit her lip out of hesitation, but she finally nodded.

"When you came back out of the dressing room, you were crying. I.... I didn't see the guy behind you. He cut you," she whispered the last sentence. My father stood up in an outrage. I wasn't listening to the words that he was saying, but he was screaming. Screaming at Clawdeen, at Clawd, at the whole Wolf family. He was blaming them for what happened to me. He stood within arms reach, so I hit him in the leg as hard as I could. He turned around and looked at me, a look of pure hatred on his face. He sunk back down into the chair next to the bed and put his hand on my arm.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I yelled and I'm sorry I wasn't there for you, today. I could feel something was wrong, but I did nothing about it. I didn't even call to see if you were alright," he said. I could barely here him, whether I chose not to or he was really just that quiet, I wasn't sure.

"It's not your fault, Mr. D. It's mine. I didn't move fast enough. I could of stopped him, but I didn't move. I froze. I'm sorry," Clawdeen whispered.

"Stop it. It's not your fault and its not your fault. It's my fault. If I hadn't been crying over....... Something, I would've hear that guy behind me and I would've stopped him myself. You froze? I would've froze if some guy was holding knife at my friend's back. I wouldn't have jumped him. Stop crying like I'm dead because I'm fine. So what, I have a few stitches? I'm alive! Shouldn't you be happy about that?" I asked, looking at Clawdeen and my father.

"Well, by technicality, you are dead," my father said quietly. I broke out in laughter, as did Clawdeen and my father. I stopped laughing as the pounding at the back of my head became more noticeable.

"Would you be mad at me if I asked you what you were crying about back at the maul?" I knew the question would be asked, I just wasn't about to answer it in front of my father.

"I can't tell you right now, ok?" She looks me in complete confusion. "I'll text you later," she smiled and nodded her head.

"Clawdeen, your mom's on the phone. She said you weren't picking up your cell phone," Victor, Frankie's dad, said from the doorway. Clawdeen crawled off the bed and gave a gentle hug before grabbing the phone from Victor.

"Do I get to know what my little girl was crying about?" I turned my head to look at my father.

"Not right now, Daddy," even I could see the pain in his face at the comment, and he normally hid pain very well. Tears brimmed my eyes. "I'm sorry for this morning, Daddy. I didn't even say goodbye to you. What if I would've died today? My last conversation with you would have been an argument," I whispered.

"Let's not think about it that way. Just think of it as you were meant to be here. Forever."
