I was in the middle of packing my bag to go back to service when Stanley waddled in. "Can you stay until Riley's born?" Stanley asked, sitting on the bed.  I looked up at him. "I wish I could, Stanley."  I knew that me going back to the service was going to be hard on him since he's far along in his pregnancy now.

"But you know that Robert, Fawn, and the other two will come over if you need someone to talk to." I walked over to where Stanley was sitting. And I gently placed a hand on his bump, giving it a few gentle rubs. "He's sleeping, I believe," Stanley replied. He put a hand on top of my hand. "I'm going to cry." I wrapped him up in a hug, while my husband cried into my shoulder.  It hurt my heart seeing him so upset.  "Hey, you know I'll be coming right back home to you and Riley."

"I know, I know." Stanley sobbed, "I'm just worried about you being safe out there."  I completely understand Stanley's concerns and being worried about my safety, but he did understand that I have been wanting to be in the army for a very long time before Stanley even got pregnant.

"Remember, I do love you and Riley very much." Stanley wiped his eyes. "We love you, too."  He jumped a little and placed a hand to his stomach. "Whoa."

"You alright?"

"Yeah, I'm fine, Riley just kicked me hard

"Yeah, I'm fine, Riley just kicked me hard." I huffed, rubbing my swelled abdomen, feeling my son kick me in response.  Everest placed his hand on top of mine, feeling the movements inside.

"He's going to miss you." I tried to joke.  "I'm going to miss him, too," Everest informed, holding me. "The best thing I ever did was marrying you." I felt tears come to my eyes when he said that. "I'm glad." I tried to keep the tears in check, but there was no way I could.

Saying goodbye was never easy, but I know that Everest was coming back.

like he always does.
