I was making coffee in my kitchen when there was a knock on the front door. "It's open!" I called, and Robert opened the door. My face fell. "Oh, it's you." I said, "What can I do for you?"
"Listen, I came here to make amends with you." Robert informed, "Since Stanley's due any day now, I want us to get along." I kept my mouth shut and listened to him talk.
I knew he wanted everyone to get along since Stanley's nearly due and he can't really get under stress right now, which I understand. Robert was his baby brother, for crying out loud. I would want to make amends, too, if I were him. I mean, I had the right to be angry towards him, but I can't be angry at him forever.
"I forgive you, Robert," I said. The words came out easier than I thought they would. "I really do. It was very mature of you to come over and talk to me about the matter."
Robert rubbed the back of his neck. "I just couldn't let this issue sit until we spoke." He replied, "I feel bad about kissing you randomly and letting you guys do all the work for Stanley when it came to the nursery for Riley. I shouldn't have let you guys do everything for the nursery. It was my responsibility too."
I raised a hand at him. "It's fine, the nursery's all done, Stanley and I finished the shopping for Riley last week, so everything is ready for him when he's born." Robert sighed.
"Okay." Robert replied, "So, are we good now? No more fights?"
"All good." I informed, "But Stanley wanted us to come over sometime to help wash all of Riley's clothes sometime before Everest comes home again." Robert nodded at me. "I'll be there." We said our goodbyes, and Robert made his way out the door and I went back to doing what I was doing.

I stood in the doorway of the nursery, looking at everything that was in it. The walls were nice shades of dark grey and navy blue. There was a custom sign made that said his name hanging over his bassinet. Of course, Riley will be sleeping in my and Everest's room for a few weeks before he can move into his room.
His dressers were all put together and ready for clothes to be put in them. Fawn said she was coming over to help me wash and dry all of them, so I won't be on my feet much.
I sighed, placing a hand on my large bump. At 36 weeks, Riley could make his grand entrance at any moment, and the thought both thrilled and frightened me.
I glanced around the softly lit room, the walls adorned with cheerful decorations, a sign of the joyous life Everest and I were about to welcome.
With Everest back in the army just a few days ago, I couldn't shake the worry that gripped me. I longed for Everest to be by my side during this pivotal moment; While I was determined to be strong, the fear of facing the unknown alone loomed large.
I remembered the last conversation, how Everest had promised he would be there, as much as his job made it hard to hold onto that assurance.
I gently rubbed my stomach, whispering to Riley. "Just hold on a little longer, buddy. Your dad will be here. We're ready for you."
While the silence enveloped me like an old friend, the soft feeling of a kick reminded me that Riley was just as eager to join the family. With a faint smile, I felt a wave of determination wash over me. No matter what, Everest and I were ready for this journey, forging ahead with the love Everest and I had for each other and our little one.
