It... Was odd...
To know it was all over.
That it was truly over.
And despite it how nothing seemed to be over.
Percy had needed to stay in the Capitol as long as she got used to her legs again, since that's where the medical personnel were, and, despite it being a bitter pill to swallow, she did so.
She had a relatively normal gait by the end of winter, but there'd be a forever limp of having one original knee and one mechanical that couldn't exactly do what a human limb could... At least she could still walk.
Maybe one arm of hers is messed up from childhood, maybe one leg of hers is messed up from her first stepping out of line and maybe her other leg is messed up by stepping towards the future that her messed up brain almost destroyed with her own hands but she thought it was a good enough price for this end.
The end of it all and the start of peace.
"Are you sure you want to leave?" Effie asked her as Percy stood on the train platform with a bag slung over her shoulder and her blades, blades that would only be a mantel piece from now on if the future was kind, still accompanying her.
"Yeah, I don't belong here." A hand in my pocket and shrugged. "Someone's waiting."
Effie pulled her in a hug, and Percy gave it back with one arm.
"Don't be a stranger."
"Right back at you, I promise you, they reaaally don't need your help and you can come with, I saw that kiss. And maybe convince Peeta to take a break from his work with retraining the Peacekeepers 'kay?"
"Nonsense! I must fix that atrocious fashion before I can retire."
The bullet train slid into the station, blasting wind through it. Percy combed her fingers through her hair and put it behind her ear.
"Well, we'll be home when you deem your self-imposed job too bothersome." She winked, stepping a bit away from Effie and to the door that slid open. "I'll keep the old drunk away from the bottle now that 13 ban on it is up."
"Much appreciated, see you soon, dear."
With a wave getting on.
Sitting alone on this train, staring out the window, and just taking it in was... Odd...
Just that everything was over, everything was calm.
That nothing would hurt her anymore.
Nothing would hurt anyone anymore.
Getting off the train almost made her want to get back on it.
The destruction remained despite the volunteer work of other districts to clean up the ones affected; it was just on such a scale that even months later, some remained.
It was like stepping back into a life that was not her own, be it the my of life this is my life or her life version of her psyche tho there was little to no competition anymore, the fake memories had this feel to them, this sheen, day by day it was easier to weed them out.
Looking up at the blue sky with the white fluffy clouds, she wouldn't have cared for long ago, and yet she treasured this moment.
A life left to live how they wanted and in the way they wanted, no monster looming over their shoulder and telling them what was needed of them.
