"You."

Well, if Katniss wasn't dreading a specific word before, she was now.

It was like all life was sapped out of her as she turned on her heels without a single additional movement like a robotic fuck up on an animatronic.

Honestly, it is way scarier to be called on with a "You" when it comes from the one who either avoids you or tries to murder you, isn't it?

Absolutely terrifying to stare down the taller girl, almost glaring down at her with a blank face charged with underlying tension to her... Again, repeating, terrifying.

"We need to talk."

...

End scene, pack your bags and stop filming, Katniss needs to head to her funeral yesterday.

"We can do it here if you want everyone to hear this." Percy snapped a little, but it was enough to restart the systems inside of Katniss.com. "I am aware of... The tension, let's say." The forced smile on her face twitched hard, holding herself back. "And I am aware guards need to be present, but I'd advise you... This discussion is worth it."

Percy span the black ring around her finger, not off-putting at all.

She'd bet 66% that this is the 'I'd prefer you dead' side of Percy talking to her.

"Here's fine." She said, there were not that many people in the cafeteria anymore, nor were many of the remaining ones even in earshot, but there were enough for her to feel better here instead of taking the risk of leaving and following her somewhere.

Percy huffed, frowning so, freezing Katniss' blood in her veins.

She could... Still feel, clear as day, each and every finger around her throat, almost as if they were once again choking her out. She almost needed to check if that wasn't happening ever if she saw Percy's hands in her pockets.

"Fine then." Shoulders slumped with a head tilt to the left, but also with her hip, whole body tilted into the movement. "I might not fully get it, but I ain't an idiot mutt. You realize someone can explain to me what's going on, and I can decide that, despite wanting to splatter your head, it wouldn't be a good choice? I might be messed up, but honestly, even I could figure out that killing Snow would do more good than merking you right now... And realize that giving me all the information that I am lacking might lead to more positives than keeping things from me."

Kicking her leg up on a bench or something and leaning on her knee, Katniss was unable to look away, hands shaking and wanting to run, but frozen in her spot.

"Repeating myself, repeating myself." Percy mockingly said, waving her arm around dismissively at her own words. "Well, I wouldn't be if people told me all I needed to know to be able to make informed decisions. Yes, instinct wants me to... Doing things and pushing them down is hard, but repeating! I am able to make better choices with information and truths instead of leaving me in the dark to fester like an open wound no one wants to admit is there. Coin has been more open to me than any of you victors." Saying it as if others were here... Maybe they were, but Katniss' body just couldn't react or move under the piercing gaze. "And for what? Protecting me? Yourself? Why? Because of this, I am lacking knowledge that would help me clear my head of this fog it always is in, because you deprive me of the truth, from Finnick to Johanna, always go ask 12, and from you all I get is half-truths. How will I know what is true or false like this? Or are you doing this to punish me for not being exactly how I was after dear ol' president Snow took a lovely liking to my screams with that bitch of a mother being his lovely tool for my suffering?"

"No, I Perc--" "No, what? Why did it take me several weeks of turning around the pot, being looked at as a creature that should know the truth, and being treated as such, without being given the grace of actually being talked to about what I am meant to know already? I can never know what of my life is real because some fuck decided to either never tell me, hide it from me, mess it up or outright falsify it to my own face."

Lifting her hand and flicking something in the air before catching it, the white ring gleaming between finger and thumb, rolling it a little.

"Would it have killed anyone to tell me what this had represented? Because it would have helped greatly to realize that this instinct to attack is not my own and just a taught reaction, how Snow is indeed the one that deserves to perish, how it explains this odd and gnawing feeling I couldn't place, or even how most of my past hinges on what this represents... For fuck sake..."

This 'We need to talk' more or less was a 'Let me tell you what I really think' from Percy's part, as the one time Katniss found the strength to speak up, she had been cut off.

Despite the anger, Percy still put the ring back in place.

Taking a step to be right in her face, leaning down a bit.

"Maybe once in a while, maybe think of telling me things. You are not the only one scared, don't make this everyone's problem, yeah?"

Stepping back with another scoff, arm thrown up with a hiss and marching off, deciding this was over for now since truly telling what she wanted would be considered a complete crash out and she'd get sedated because she is dangerous and a monster.

Katniss shakily reached out but let Percy walk away.

Watching her go and seeing her walk around Peeta as they whispered something to each other before marching off and leaving Peeta to stare too before looking at her.

And once again.

With one look.

Katniss knew she had yet again failed Percy and had left Peeta to do what she was meant to.
