The plan was clear.
To limit the chance of being spotted, it would be Katniss and Percy while the rest would stay back. Katniss had refused anyone else and only allowed Percy because how the fuck would she be able to tell Percy to not come?
No, seriously, out of any time, right now was not the time someone could convince Percy of leaving Katniss behind.
And so, with the parting help of Tigris, they had set off with capes to hide themselves and blend into the crowd of evacuated Capitol citizens.
For once in her life, Katniss saw them as... Equal? That word didn't feel appropriate, but language didn't have one other word to say (or one the author knew of, if there is) someone being in a similar or even lower situation than one's own in such a way that it made you feel a certain way, in a need to help.
They had hurt her, her loved ones, her people, for entertainment, and yet here she was, feeling pity for the little girl in her mother's arms, feeling sad for the man hurrying to push through the crowd in hope of safety, feeling bad for the old woman shuffling past her.
They didn't deserve her pity, her sadness, her feeling bad, and yet they did, as currently they looked nothing more than how the district would have... Scared, fearful, looking for protection, for escape.
For the first time, the Capitol was no different then the districts, trying to survive.
And boy, would it be trying.
"HEY!" Katniss snapped back in fear at the peacekeeper's scream, but soon there was an explosion nearby, throwing debris and people aside as panic set in, and more came.
---------------------------------------------------------
One second, she was on the lookout for trouble... Aaaand next she gets herself a lovely slam down right on her back on a packed van, falling off it.
Percy is no towel to throw around and yet.
Flipping on her stomach and crawl under the van, lucky her it was high off the ground and could easily fit her, just taking a moment to gather herself and what's going on.
There are bombs, peacekeepers, she lost track of Katniss, people panicking, rebels storming the front-- hold up, wind back... She lost track of Katniss!
Scrambling out from under it.
"Katniss!" Looking around wildly but not seeing her in the crowd of people, not with her looking like 80% of them with the grey cape they both wear.
Looking towards the center of the Capitol building, the building where it all was decided, the building with Snow.
If Percy hurried and got there before Katniss, or even after, the chance of running into her there was 100%.
But it wouldn't be easy, would it, to just do that.
"You!"
And well, Percy didn't need to think about what a 'You!' meant, grabbing her sword, still wishing she had that gun, turning around towards the voice and, before she could even blink, the peacekeeper that was sprinting at her had a nice time seeing his own head be separated from his own body before his consciousness faded.
Percy watched the body flop over.
Oh fuck it.
"Get out of my way, I need to get somewhere." She grumbled to herself, picking up the gun from the ground, more like a rifle, and luckily enough, she was a candidate, even if it had not been important for a long time, let's say it is important now, of course, they'd teach her to hold one. Sheathing the blade.
Turning the weapon to spray down the little squad coming at her before turning around in a sprint to her goal.
Reaching up with a grumble, grabbing the clasp of the cape, and ripping it off when she got snagged by it on some rubble.
Stumbling from being freed.
Aiming the rifle up and shooting a burst of semi-auto into a peacekeeper coming forth, and then into two others, before a fist came to crush into the side of her head. The owner of it was so silent that they escaped her narrowed perception.
"Look at whose back again." Percy caught herself on the side of a building, fingers digging into the brick.
Rubbing her jaw as she looked up.
"I could say the same... Did you miss my screams so much? I could have signed a picture, you know? To my biggest fan, love Percy."
Evidently, not killing your mother that wants you dead and helped in your torture and who'd be tracking you specifically would come back to bite you in the ass at the worse time it could right?
That woman even waved off her escort so that she could deal with this alone, and almost made a flourish about flinging her own rifle over her shoulder when Percy's only clicked, bullet either jammed, or it was empty.
There was one beat of silence before Percy herself broke it by running in, flinging the broken rifle through the air, letting it go.
The arm was lifted to block the throw before two blades met in a sparking smack against each other.
"I'll be happy to reunite you with your cheating husband and horrid son in death, just stop--" Swinging upwards diagonally, only to get blocked. "-BLOCKING!!"
The world is full of injustices, tho.
Neither of them would get to conclude this fight barely started, neither of these two women would ever get closure, and no one who witnessed the pain caused.
No, this was not satisfying revenge, for the world is cruel.
And bombs...
Blinding, painful, bombs...
Are more cruel...
(aka author honestly have no idea how to kill of this bitch as she was meant to die way earlier but I forgot about her and Percy was meant to be... A bit blown up by bombs so, no closure for characters or readers.... soooooorrryyyyyy.)
