Jayna enjoyed sightseeing more than most.. she just found humans so interesting. They either seemed to care too much or too little, usually depending on their age. How did they transition so fast to a carefree life to one of stress? As far as she could remember, she had always been the same. Sure there were memories as her life as an actual groundhog, alive and running around the forest grounds, but she couldn't recall actual emotions to her memories. There were times she knew she was happy or knew she was sad, but she couldn't know exactly how much because she didn't feel it anymore. So humans were entertaining to say the least. Some of them got upset far too easily, some of them were an emotional rock like the reaper.. aaaaand back to the pessimistic thoughts. It seemed like everytime anyone thought back to Grey Loss their hearts fell.. Ilia especially. Jayna had gone to visit the kid, see how she was doing without her hero.. after all, the few times she saw Ilia around Grey before (it wasn't too often but still) the fox girl was so happy to be there. She even caught the grim smiling softly a few times himself at her light. It was hardest for her definatally.. especially from what she said. Jayna had been feeling that sense of something being horribly wrong, all animals had that sense, even humans though theirs were far weaker. Ilia, Jayna, Bunny.. all of them had a sense slightly stronger than everyone else. And though Bunny didn't seem to admit it, Ilia did.. something bad was going to happen. It was only natural to assume it would be centered around Grey, it would just be fitting with the way the situation had worked out, but were they really taking it seriously? North had allowed Jack to go visit his human friend which was cute and all but... shouldn't they be worried by this feeling?
She gave a shake of her head and blinked up in a gracious sigh. She wasn't going to let the bad drag her down, what help would that be? To be honest she didnt really care much.. she was there to help, not to join the little "group." It was her job from the Man in the Moon to protect humans, even if overall she only controlled things like gambling and whether spring would start early or not. She didn't mind the lack of importance though. Made things more relaxing.
Thanks to the lack of interest in groundhog day and the lack of belief in chance from most people, Jayna wasn't seen. Sure the gamblers and a few specific groups of people could glance over from the city street they were driving on and see a fur covered beauty walking along casually, but it was rare. All she had to do is smile, wink, then go hide so they thought she was some sort of sign. She was after all.. if they believed in her, then she usually tipped them with the lucky hand in a game or in life in general when she noticed they needed it. It was fun to see their reactions.
But for now, there was none of that. The streets seemed to be a little less occupied than normal though... strange enough. Maybe there was going to be a storm coming. Jayna shrugged it off despite the lack of clouds at all in the skies above... then she heard something. It was coming from the corner that was coming up ahead. It was like... crying. Horrible sobbing. She ran around to see, usually she didn't bother much if a human cried. They got too upset sometimes, needed to chill out. But this sounded painful, like the person was in horrible agony that wouldn't end. By the time the pads of her big paws reached the source of the sound though she was frozen in shock at the gruesom sight before her...
Grey glared at the ground, biting into his lip harder and harder at each notification that came to his mind. A sick child in a hospital who should've passed on, an abortion that he couldn't carry to the heaven the child was going to far before its time... a man who had fallen in front of a van in the street of a city near Burgess.. all this chaos and hell.. because of him.. The door creaked open. He didn't even look now, he didn't care who came in. All three of the people residing in this place were against him, why did it matter who came in if they all had the same evil mindset? Well, all but that wind kid.. but he was the same enough. "Its your time to shine," a snicker called out, reaching muffled through the thick glass containing him from lunging out and tackling the voice's master to hell and back himself. But still the words allowed some regret to sink in.. he saw a hand on the glass, the smirk that squinted the bright yellow eyes slightly.. before his throat closed tight and his vision grew faint. "Lets see how entertaining you can be~"
Blood and metal.. and something she could far less call a human than a mangled, torn piece of a corpse. His body was twisted so awkwardly but his eyes were still open, teary and in horrible pain. His arms and legs were limp and twisted, unmoving as he laid on the ground on the side of the street. It was obvious his neck was twisted... yet he was still fully alive, crying, screaming. "Please end this!!!" He shouted the second her widened eyes made contact. She couldn't move.. he had shards of glinting metal impaling the skin all over him, he was bleeding insanely from so many different small indentures.. It looked like he had been in a horrible, head on car wreck. Jayna was usually strong, able to contain herself but this sight was so horrifying she could feel the head of burning tears running down the soft brown fur on her cheeks. She couldn't comprehend how he could still blink, still scream, still cry. He should've been dead, the way he was twisted, the amount of blood that was running down his sides around him.. how was he alive..? She didnt even think about the reaper until a few minutes later. Grey should've sent this man on a long time ago. Even if he had gone to the side of evil there was no way his hard head would give up something he was assigned to do.. no matter how cold she saw him to be, he was obediant to the life he had been given.. and he wouldn't have let this happen. Unless.. he didnt have a choice.
Then it all clicked in her mind, eyes flashing open even further. She wished that someone, anyone could see her so that she could call out frantically like she wanted to, alert someone of this poor man so he could be taken to the hospital. If this man was still alive after an attack like that then there was a chance that there were more people just like him.. if Grey wasn't around, no hospital, no injection, no injury could put any one of them out of their misery. The groundhog finally couldn't stand listening to his horrified tears, rushing away with the promise to the man who must've believed in chance enough to see her that she would at least get him to a hospital where he could be.. well.. possibly fixed. She scooped up a rock, narrowing her eyes and clenching her paw around it, waiting... The street the man was on wasn't a very commonly used one and the way he was laying on the sidewalk, no one in a car would be able to see him down on the ground below. So she would make full sure that he got the attention he had to get. She wouldn't allow something like this to happen.. just like Grey wouldn't have. Finally she saw it, the indication she had been looking for. A black and white car cruising down the street, lights not on, siren not blaring.. no emergancy in the officer driving's mind. She closed her eyes and threw, immidiatally muttering a quiet sentance to herself. "Hit now."
Bam. The shatter of glass was what she had been aiming to hear, though there was no way she'd miss. The spirit of chance had all chance by her side... which meant that that rock was GOING to hit. And gladly, it did. The officer's car turned around at the intersection the second it got the oppertunity and sirens were flaring in that direction.. though they didn't drown out the screaming coming from so close nearby. "God bless you... and chance turns to your favor," she whispered in the direction of the pained voice before running on. She had to get to the pole... something was seriously wrong.
I've decided to try and update much more often to get in and stay into the swing of the story. My chapters might be a shorter though for a bit since i'm sort of rusty with writing. Please forgive me for a while till I get it all back ^^" I've got a few small ideas for this story but they'll happen later.
With the man who had been in the car accident, I sort of wrote that from something I saw in a video about why drunk driving is bad. It was pretty gruesome.. and definatally possible. What happened to the man in the story can actually happen to you except you'd be dead in seconds. Note to any readers, please be safe on the road. Anyways, thanks for reading, review if you'd like, only star if you feel its worth it, and have a good night ^^
