So This is Fear...

Later in this chapter I sort of merge Grey and Pitch’s perspectives, kind of flip flopping between the two. Sorry if this is confusing, just sort of wanted to get the both of them and didn’t know how ^^’ but I think this is a good chapter all in all. Thank you for reading, have a good night.

Just realized I said "sled" instead of "sleigh." I apologize for this, I grew up thinking it was a sled ^^"' I'll fix it in the next chapters.

With all the complications the group of spirits had had with flying before, things were strangely calm in the dewy morning skies as they soared above the calm waters of the Arctic Ocean. Before the wind had easily manipulated the air into a whirlwind of galestorms that knocked Jack and Ilia right off of the huge, strong, and sturdy bird they had been riding on. It was almost haunting that they weren’t going through such troubles.

North had prepared for the worst, strengthening the  creaky, aging boards of his sled so that if the expected blasts of wind did come, their transportation wouldn’t shatter right from under them, especially since there was a weight much greater than one husky man on board. Sandy had returned right on time, floating on board and giving a small shrug to the curious eyes of his comrads, a small sleeping child with Z’s over his head appearing in bright golden sand above his head. It would make sense that he would go off to give good dreams to children when practical zombies were lying in the streets and even in their own homes, at least rest would be something to look forward to in contrast to the deep, agonizing nightmares that had seemed to plague everyone according to what Jack and Jamie heard when roaming the streets of Burgess for more information. The small boy strongly wanted to get involved, even if he had no powers it was nice to see him bravely wanting to help, so Jack took him exploring for a few days. All the information that returned was bad news.

Tooth temporarily gave up her duties, flying off to the Tooth Palace to give a deep apology to the small fairies who had worked their hardest to make up for the lacking amounts of workers as Tooth assigned more and more of the small hummingbirds to helping her care for the wounded. She wasn’t a nurse, she never had been, but she felt herself in the infirmary of the Pole more often than not. Maybe it was because she had the strongest fake smile out of the guardians, maybe just because she liked seeing the things she could help. When she did leave she was in Ilia’s room, helping the small girl care for the animals she brought in. It was fearful enough, wrapping the paw of a beast knowing full well it could snap her up for dinner at any second… but she wanted to be there. Ilia was worrying her a little, how silent the child had fallen. She hadn’t heard the small playful voice in weeks now, not even a word, her once brilliant eyes focused sadly down at whatever creature she had at her side at the moment. Tooth had wondered if she wanted to be left alone, but she was never asked to leave and Ilia came and sat by her sometimes, watching her work.. she took that as a good sign to stay. Now they were on their way to Pitch’s Lair and she was begging with every last inch of hope left that Grey would be there by force, not will. It was a bad thing to hope for, but she had grown close to the spirit of nature, and picturing the heartbreak in the girl’s expression if she found out that the reaper was their on his own will, didn’t care about her or anyone else, was killing for the fun of it and nothing more… that was enough to motivate her to do anything to stop it.

“Do you think Bunny and Jayna are there yet?” The tooth fairy asked, hoping to start a small conversation among the silence of the group. Jack, who was sitting on the railing of the sled with his legs hanging over despite not having the wind to catch him if he fell, looked over his shoulder to reply, North being too focused on steering to be listening in too well. “The tunnels should be faster, but I’m pretty sure Bunny wont run in without us,” The winter spirit replied, Sandy giving a small nod of agreement. Sure Bunny was stubborn and impatient enough, but he knew the risks of going into Pitch’s Lair unprepared. The man was much more powerful now, though they didn’t know quite how much more, plus he had Chaos and Wind at his side. It wouldn’t be safe. “But why wind not knock us out of sky?” North questioned, not looking to them but directing the question their way. Jack seemed to be unaffected but the corner of his mouth twitched slightly; he still missed his friend. He turned, his bare feet pressing down on the boards of the sled once more as he sat down into a much safer position. “I guess either Pitch doesn’t know were coming or is waiting for us,” he muttered, eyebrows knitted together slightly in thought. “Let’s hope for the former..” Tooth said quietly, her purple eyes focusing onto the path ahead. There was land within sight now, they had gone around Canada and the northern part of America to cross the Pacific Ocean, North having said that seeing something strange flying above the towns might scare the humans more than excite them with how the world was now. It was better to stay out of sight.. but they were within their destination.
