Panic

Earlier that day..

Bunnymund's paws thumped impatiently against the hardwood floors beneith them, his arms crossed and the back of the cushy chair indented from the length of time he had been sitting there, waiting. Tooth and Sandy both had jobs to do, but there was no time to wait. He hoped that they arrived soon enough. Over the past few days since Pitch arrived there, North had been growing more and more restless, as he was too. Pitch hinted that Jack could be in danger.. and if they ran to go get him, they would be killed. The thought of Death himself under the nightmare king's control was nerving, scary over much of anything. The thought that they had every resource to kill Jack made that fear ten times worse. North finally broke his patience and Bunny noticed as he went to his desk and turned the lever signalling the calling of the other guardians. They should be arriving any minute, but minutes felt like hours in the depths of the rabbit's mind.

After a few more centuries it felt like, there was finally the creak of the door swinging open and a fast green swish tackled Bunnymund in a hug. "Bunny!! I've missed you so much! How have you been?" Tooth pulled back, grinning excitedly as her wings fluttered faster than the eye could lock onto, but the smile she weilded quickly faded into a concerned, nervous glance as she saw the forboding in his face. "Bunny, whats wrong..?" She looked around as Sandy and North walked in, Sandy's own grin fading and a question mark of golden sand forming above his head. She noticed that one member of the five was missing, turning around and examining the room before turning back, the anxiety in her eyes growing. "And where's Jack?" As both North and Bunny's heads lowered, she realized something had to be wrong. Since the rabbit wouldn't answer, she turned to the santa claus. After a deep sigh, he spoke up, his russian accent tinged with sadness. "Jack was taken by Pitch along with Ilia Windgrove."

"Pitch..?! B... but he's fallen! We beat him!" Tooth couldn't believe it, her heart skipping as she grew more and more panicked. "Lets go get him then, come on!"

"We cant, Tooth!" The austrailian's yell was unexpected. He never raised his voice to Tooth despite his attitude he aimed to keep up, but the entire situation got him worked up. "Pitch got Grey Loss on his side. If we go for Jack he'll have us dead in seconds and then Jack will have no one to save him!" All four figures bowed their heads, sandy's golden eyes closing tightly in thought, plans of how to get past Death's rein flashing through his head but none made sense. Grey Loss was powerful and having him as an enemy was NOT good. "Why would he take Jack.." Tooth muttered quietly, purple eyes starting to get glossy with the want to cry, the feeling of hopelessness filling her chest with a heavy weight. "You said he took Nature too..? Why?"

"We dont know.." North muttered, shaking his head. He was the leader of the guardians, and though he felt just as hopeless as the rest, he knew there must be a way around it. His eyebrows furrowed together then he raised his head boldly, his suddenly confident voice from the quietness it was before snapping all of the others awake to listen. "All we can do is assume that Grey will let us pass. If we wait here, who knows what will be happening to Jack! Ilia as well! Its time we stopped forgetting about the smaller spirits. It's our duty to protect the children.. and now its our duty to protect other spirits as well!"

"But we dont know anything about Death, for all we know he could be just as wicked as Pitch is!" Bunny argued, rising from his chair and clenching his paws into fists. All I know about him is he is a blank emotionless wall that takes humans and spirits to their afterlives, we dont know if he has a heart or not, It sure doesnt look like he does!" He felt so hopeless, so angry at the thought of Jack possibly being hurt and him not being able to do anything to help or stop it. Tooth's soft, sad tone spoke up. "We dont have a choice.. we cant stay back knowing that Pitch is growing stronger with Jack in his holds.." North nodded and Sandy gave a small, unenthusiastic shrug. It was settled enough, they were going to Pitch's Lair despite the risk. "Lets just hope theres some sort of heart behind that ghost of a man.." the large rabbit mumbled, making sure his boomerangs were latched tightly on his back. "To the sleigh!" North shouted, and led the rest of the not-so-excited guardians out of the room.
