Chapter 6: Games and Jake... Don't Work Well For Me
"Are we really going to go over me saying the same thing over and over again? Jake and I are going to stay the night, so we can have a bucket load of fun."
Sure, a bucket load of fun with Jake. That would be like spending your last moments on earth with a sloth. I put on my grim face and went into the kitchen to check on my aunt, who was currently cooking us all some macaroni and cheese. She said she understood our pain after shopping so long at the mall and she decided to let Nicole and Jake stay over for the night. I feel like she might the first aunt to let a guy sleepover with the girls. The worst thing was that Jake actually agreed to stay over and have fun with us.
I wandered out from the kitchen to my room to play some cassettes. Letting myself assume that Jake must be in Owen's room playing video games, I took out my precious sketchbook that I never let anyone see. Even my mom hasn't seen it. I took a seat in the desk beside me and drew my heart out. I let the music take control of my pencil and the way I twirled it to make beautiful flowers. Suddenly, the door opened to reveal Jake. He walked over and sat next to my desk. I closed my sketchbook without hesitation and stared back at him.
"What do you think you're doing here, Jake?" I asked
"I'm in my best friend's house and his name is Owen." Jake said, "I just wanted to drop by and check on you."
"Well, who said you can come into my room without my permission? I didn't." I said, stubbornly.
Jake looked around my room and his eyes landed on my wonderful sketchbook. Before I knew it, he grabbed it and was about to open it. I lunged at him and grabbed my precious book out of his hands. I hugged it tightly against my chest not wanting to let go of it. He jumped on top of me and tried to grab my sketchbook. My phone made us both go silent. All you could hear is Jake and I breathing heavily. He reached quickly behind me and grabbed my phone from my back pocket. NO! Please let it not be Nicole or my mom or my dad.
He answered my phone, "Hi you have reached Alya's Sparkle World! You can drop by anytime for a free show! She's got the moves! Join us tomorrow night in her opening show."
"Uh, Alya, did you get kidnapped or did you change your voice to make it sound like a guy?" a really familiar voice said, over the phone.
"Cecilia, save me! Jake the idiot, took my phone away from me!"
"Oh, well, I guess I'll call another time." She sang through the phone, feigning sadness.
"I swear if you do-" I paused, trying to kick his shin. He dodged and finally got off. I sighed and grabbed my phone out of his hands.
"Don't cut that phone." I said as I placed my phone on the table. I moved in front of a whiny Jake and pushed him towards my door which ended up taking me a few minutes. I gave him a big final push out my door and locked my bedroom door behind me.
"Okay, I finished pushing him out of my room. Did anything exciting happen at school?"
"Well, everything has been hectic and crazy. Teachers have been giving all of us an enormous amount of homework and three tests per week. Did anything good happen at your aunt's? Guys? Gals?"
"I met this girl named Nicole at my school and we got along very well. I got in trouble because I started a food fight in our cafeteria. My aunt adopted a five year old boy that is a close family friend."
"Wow. Not the ordinary trip. It seems like you've had a tough week. You probably fainted a couple times too, right?"
"I fainted three times and all my incidents had to happen in front of Jake. Argh!" I told her while tugging at my hair in frustration. "Hey, Cecilia, I'll call you some time later. Nicole and Jake are staying over the night and someone's at my door right now. I'll give you a call back."
