Calli winced as another barrage of leads knocked down the storefront above them. Her nerves were teetering on edge. Each burst of gunshot was testing her luck as she fought the odds of getting struck by a ricochetting bullet.

The situation was getting worse. Stuck behind the countertop of the store, Calli, Kiara, and Marine were helpless as the rain of bullets continued to tear apart their surroundings.

Meanwhile, the marauders were rapidly approaching.

"Give me your gun," Marine demanded, extending her hand towards Kiara, "I'll buy you time. Get Calli onto her feet and keep moving towards the left side of the cafeteria. There should be a hallway in ten minutes. Go in and keep right until you see the entrance to the subterranean levels."

"W-What about you?" Kiara asked as she handed over her gun.

"I'll be behind you guys. Just focus on moving. The faster the two of you get to safety, the better odds I have of surviving this stupid mess."

Marine adjusted the gun in her hands, bouncing it back and forth as if trying to get used to the weight and grip.

"Lighter than I'm used to it, but it'll do," she said before turning to Calli and Kiara, "Ready?"

The two of them nodded uneasily, not sure how this insane woman was somehow going to get them out of this mess. Marine's confidence did little to assuage their concerns.

Calli watched as Marine closed briefly her eyes and let out a deep breath. The footsteps of the marauders thundered close.

Without warning, she suddenly sprung up and fired a shot.

Boom!

The bullet landed directly between an oncoming marauder's eyes. The man fell backwards, collapsing against a table in the seated area of the cafeteria. Before Calli could even confirm the man's death, Marine was already onto the next target.

Boom! Boom!

Consecutive gunshots thundered through the air. Two more marauders fell. The cafeteria was suddenly painted in red accompanied by agonizing screams and panicked voices.

Holy shit!

"Move! Now!"

Calli felt Kiara pull on her arm as the two of them ran out of cover. Marine leaped onto the counter. Retaliatory gunshots rained down at her position, drawn by the crazy maneuver that placed her right into the open. Rather than duck back down, the insane woman decided to jump into the air, soaring over the bullets that were aimed at the surface of the countertop. Her gun blazed as she continued to unleash hell while airborne. Every single shot appeared to be lethal as the marauders were mowed down bullet by bullet.

"Kiara! How the hell is she moving like that?!" Calli screamed with excitement, almost wondering if her mind was playing tricks on her from the loss of blood.

"Focus on running Calli! She's trying her best to buy time for us!" Kiara shouted back, grimacing each time from the deafening ring of gunshots.

The two of them sprinted down the corridor out of the cafeteria.

Squelch!

Another marauder collapsed into a puddle of blood and splattered gore. The floor of the cafeteria was quickly mauled by gruesome corpses lying in a sea of red. The haunting scene, however, didn't seem to deter the enemies from continuing their reckless pursuit.
