Chapter 17

By the time had gotten dressed to leave Julius was already gone and I was glad because I didn't want to see him. I had met Daya at a small restaurant and bar and we had enjoyed a good talk over our dinner and now we were sitting at the bar talking some more.
"You know I was married before." Daya said as held up her left hand staring at it.
"If feels like ages ago but honestly it was just four years ago, and I have never told anyone about it before." She admitted.
"What happened if you don't mind me asking?" I responded.
"I came from a small city where I was groomed at a young age to be a captains wife. At eighteen I was married to Louis a twenty four year old captain of our clans army. Eventually I grew to love him but and we spent seven years together before he lost his life in a battle. After a few months my parents came to me and told me that I would remarry the new captain and I refuse. Refusing meant being disowned by my family and my name being taken from me. But it was a choice that I had made and I moved to a new city and started a whole new life. I gave myself a new last name and worked my ass off around the city until I had enough money to open my own small shop. I haven't spoken to my parents but I looked in on them once they started over again with siblings I will never meet." Daya finished and then down the liquor in her glass. She tapped on the bar and the bartender came over and refilled her glass.
"I'm sorry that happened to you, that isn't right I don't understand thing here I just don't" I sighed as I sipped on my drink.
"Its the way things have always been done and it will never change. If a man of power wants to marry you then he can and turning him down isn't good for you. I don't see things ever changing up at least the city I live for has some differences but at the core they are all the same. I own my own shop and that isn't something that attracts the men hear so dating is hard, and its been a long time." She replied.
"It seems that the men here only want women to stay behind the scenes and that's it." I stated.
"The safest thing for you is to know that but not to bring it up don't cause unnecessary trouble for yourself." She responded.
"Yeah I get that but doesn't mean I want to just accept it." I replied.
Daya and I had talked some more and Daya agreed to help me with my wedding and help me through it. I felt a little better being able to have someone that I knew outside of Julius. When I got home he was no were to be found and I didn't bother to text him. I realized that he didn't care to explain himself to me or felt that he really had to and that meant we could never had a real relationship.
Before I knew three weeks ha d flashed before my eyes and I walked our my living room filled with huge baskets. I was given the task of picking the colors, theme, dress, and everything else for my wedding. Even though Leona and Kingston were there it wasn't the same as having Daya there. She knew my heart wasn't in it and I she was the only friends I had right now.
We had hung out a lot the last month and I had even visited her city and amazing shop a few times. Of course I had a pack of guards with me and I felt they were there not to protect me but to make sure I didn't run off. I knew that Daya had a gift that could see certain things but I had realized just like me it was still new to her. She was still learning how to read certain things in front of her and sometimes feared they weren't accurate.
A lot of pressure was put on her in the past to use her gifts for her husband and sometimes it helped. But when he died and she didn't see it she felt responsible and had stopped using her gifts for a long time. I understood how that could be hard to deal with so I didn't want to ask her to us them for me. I was just happy that she was there and I tried to be there for her as much as I could. It was clear for years she didn't have anyone to confide in, but I think she feared talking to the wrong being. She agreed with some of the things I felt and that could be very dangerous it the wrong being found out.
