"Well?"
"Can I eat first?" Mav gazed at me while holding his fork midmouth.
"No. I've been worried for hours. Especially after you didn't respond to my text. And don't you dare say your phone died." We simultaneously said phone died and I gave him a withering glance.
"Alright. I drove around before meeting your brother West."
As I stared in silence, he took a quick bite.
"Why did you meet with him? Is my family on my tail? Of course, they're not stupid. Should I leave right now or tomorrow?"
"Hey, hey. Calm down, your family doesn't have a clue." He placed his hand on mine and ran his thumb over my fingers.
I closed my eyes and took a few breaths as Rev had shown me. Feeling under control, I opened my eyes and smacked Mav's hand.
"Gee, what was that for?"
"You know what. Now explain yourself."
"I informed him of your decision and he gave me something for you." Mav reached inside his vest and revealed an envelope.
I snatched it and immediately tore it open. Inside were not my.. birth certificate, social security card, and I.D. card. As all three read; Vega E. Jones.
What are these? I brought my own.
I placed the new documentation on the table and noticed a note inside the envelope.
You're not gonna get far from ma and dad, with your current identification. Goodluck
I stuffed everything back in the envelope and glanced up at Mav.
"So this is why you were so late?"
"Yeah, I-."
"Wait, if that's the case, why ghost me?"
"I was...well..."
"Mhmm?"
"I'M UPSET THAT YOU'RE LEAVING."
"Uh-."
"I know that you can only stay for a week and I helped you find a job placement. BUT I DON'T WANT YOU TO LEAVE."
"Um-."
"I know you have to leave, but you don't know how tempted I am to keep you here."
