FOUR MONTHS LATER

"DADDYYY, HIGHERRRRR," Leesa squealed.

I turned from watching Herc and Ver chasing Reese up and around the playset.

"Sorry babygirl. Now how high do you wanna go?"

"As high as the suuuun!"

"I don't know if you'll reach that high, but I'll do my best."

I continued pushing Leesa higher as safely as I could, though she begged to go higher. However as I watched Herc, Ver catch Reese and fall into a pile, my chest tightened. I felt the wriggle of jealousy and gave Leesa a rougher push.

"AHHHHHH. DADDYYYYY." She screeched as her hands slipped from the chains and soared into the air.

Catch her. Catch her you asshole.

I screamed at myself as I scrambled forward, however Verity beat me to it.

"VEGAAAA. You caught meeee!"

"Of course I did, I wasn't gonna let you get hurt, sweet-thing."

I placed a hand over my chest and breathed heavily as I stared at Leesa in her arms. Herc and Reese reached Ver and Leesa before turning to me.

"Vega?"

"Is daddy okay?" Leesa and Reese asked and I slightly smiled.

"He'll be okay, but...I think he needs a hug."

"Really?"

"Really. Your daddy was scared you'd get hurt. So he needs a hug too."

"Ohhh.

"Okay."

"Daddy, come hug!"

The four of them turned with one of their arms open and I chuckled. I slowly walked over and joined their hug. The hug got so chaotic that we ended up in a heap on the grass, but with Herc and I at the bottom.

"Sorry daddy, for scaring you."

"Baby, no you didn't scare me. I scared myself. I pushed you too hard."

The two of us leaned towards each other and I barely managed to kiss her cheeks. For a few peaceful minutes we layed there, soaking up the love.

"Oh, look at the sunset girls," Ver commented and we all turned to watch the last few moments of the sun disappear.

"Bye sun."

"See you tomowow."

The girls waved though the sun had vanished.

"Alright girls, what does that mean?"

"Bath-time!"

"Right! Let's go get clean."

The girls scrambled up and quickly ran towards the back door.

"Do you want help?" Herc asked after the three of us had gotten to our feet.

"That'd be nice," she nodded.

"Wait, Herc. You helped yesterday evening."

"I know, but you're the birthday boy. So relax, Ver and I've got it."

I turned to Ver and she nodded in confirmation, siding with Herc.

"Okayyyy, but you two seem to always side together."
