I could hear thousands of footsteps on the other side of the mess of furniture. They all belonged to soldiers. Soldiers who had it in their hearts to kill us all.

No one spoke for a minute. It was the longest minute to ever come to pass. Both sides were locked in silence. No one dared to move. No one dared to speak a word. Everyone's gaze was locked on the barricade and the impending doom that was set out before us.

I looked to Courfeyrac. His face was paler in color. His expression was worried. I knew he wasn't fearing for his own safety, but mine. I saw Enjolras. He wore an expression of guilt and worry. Never fear. He would never show fear, but I knew he was scared to an extent. I looked to Grantaire. He had stumbled out of the café's doorway and to my side when Enjolras had slapped me. He was deathly still, his gaze on Enjolras. Éponine had her gaze set on Marius. She was afraid, for him. I saw Gavroche last. He was looking at me and for the first time I saw him look terrified.

We were all protecting someone else. Enjolras would have Grantaire and I protecting him. I'd be protecting Courfeyrac too. Marius had Éponine to protect him. Gavroche had practically the whole barricade keeping watch on him. Maybe they might make it out of here, even if we don't.

"Who's there?!" a voice shouts from the other side of the barricade. Enjolras grabs a gun and so does Marius. They run straight for the barricade and pause in the middle. Everyone else is grabbing guns and taking their places.

"French Revolution!" Enjolras shouts back. There's a clicking sound on the other side of the barricade.

"Fire!" the first voice shouts again.

Courfeyrac looks over to me and throws himself in front of me as thousands of bullets fire at once, all headed towards us.

Soldiers start coming from the other side to climb the barricade. Courfeyrac grabbed my hand and dragged me into the tavern.

"Gavroche!" I shouted to him. His mouth hung open. Gavroche came in right behind him. Courfeyrac shut the tavern door and grabbed a gun.

"Wait!" I screamed.

"Are you ok?" Gavroche asked worriedly.

"I'm fine! I need to be out there though!" I shouted pounding on the door. I could hear bullets hitting the walls, guns firing, shouting, and the sound of bodies falling to the ground.

I grabbed a gun from the corner of the room. I saw Javert just siting there with a smirk on his face.

"What's that for?!" I shouted at him. He didn't answer.

I ran back for the door and pounded on it again. Could they even hear me? I smashed the glass of the window with the butt of the gun. I took out all the other pieces from the frame and jumped through it. Gavroche followed me. I could clearly see a war zone on the other side.

I could see soldiers climbing he barricade. Everyone had guns and were shooting at each other. I quickly found Courfeyrac and Enjolras. They were boh safe...for now.

I saw Marius climbing the barricade. He didn't have a gun. Some boy who Marius didn't give a second look to thrust a gun into his hand. Marius was carrying a torch and was holding it too close to the barricade. Was that barrel full of ammunition that he was standing beside?

"Marius! No! What are you doing?" Gavroche shouted behind me. I ran over towards the barricade. What was Marius trying to do?

"Fall back or I blow the barricade!" he shouted to a soldier. He seemed to be the one in charge. I could hear another shot near Marius, but it hit some other man before him.
