Chapter 10: Invitation

Today was yet again, for the four Wonderland children, a waiting and boring day.

It had been 3 days since Claire had secretly placed the camera with her tail as a cat in Mal's dorm, and they have been waiting for Mal to take her spell book out ever since.

Even Morgan and Aaron had been skipping multiple classes just to wait for Mal to use her book.

"This is... USELESS!" Claire groans lying on her back on the bed, obviously bored.

Morgan set down her tea and looked dead at Claire. "This was YOUR idea. It's not like you told us to do anything different!"

"Guys quit it... How bout we all just take a break from it?... You too Will... No more staring at computer screens!" Aaron announces trying to get the other three up.

"Why should we? We are even closer to getting the book and going home than before..." Will says spinning his chair around so he is no longer looking at the screen.

"Why don't we actually experience the classes, Auradon, and the people here WHILE we are still here?" Aaron says grabbing a bag and tossing it to Claire, who catches it and throws it back on the ground.

"No way! We have to get-" Claire starts but is cut off by a knocking at the door.

Claire stands up and goes to open it, since obviously no one else was going to. Standing in the doorway was Ben and Doug, son of Dopey, who were each holding a big bag of papers. Ben takes one out and tries to hand it to Claire, but she only looks at it in his hand.

"What?" She says rudely.

"This is an invitation to the grand ball next week!" Doug smiles, sounding excited.

"Grand ball? What is it? A tourney match?" Claire raises an eyebrow skeptically.

"You've never been to a ball before?" Ben asks almost laughing.

Morgan steps into view. "Unless you mean like a ball as in a crying circle at a tea party... No." Morgan shakes her head.

"Well... A ball is where you come, normally with someone else, and you dress fancy for the occasion... And we'll... Dance and have a good time. This one is a very special occasion because-" Ben starts before Doug interrupts him.

"It's Ben's birthday! The grand ball is going to be celebrating his 18th birthday!" Doug pauses. "Sorry..." He says to Ben stepping back a bit.

"The whole school is invited. So we wanted to invite you four as well!" Ben finishes trying to hand the envelope to them again.

Will cuts through both Claire and Morgan to take the blue envelope from him. He tears it open as soon as he grabs it and reads it aloud.

"Dear students of Auradon,
You have been invited to the Grand Ball of the generation, celebrating King Ben's 18th birthday! This shall be the grandest of occasions so please be sure to come professionally dressed.
The date of the Ball will naturally, be on Ben's birthday, next week on Friday. The ball will begin at 4:00 pm after school, please be sure to come early or on time.
Thank you. We will be delighted to see you there!" Will finishes.

But he merely folds up the invitation again and hands it back to Ben. Ben looks at them confused.

"We can't come." Will says. This time, even Morgan looks at him weird.

"Why not?" Ben asks.

"It says on the letter 'Students of Auradon'... We are just visitors." Will says. But Ben smiles and hands the invitation back to them, this time handing it to Morgan, who would actually keep it.
