You find a vial of poison," the Fairy Godmother quizzed. "Do you A-put it in the King's wine, B-paint it on an apple, C- turn it over to the authorities or D- use it to your advantage?"
I want to be like my mother. I refused to raise my hand, although Carlos and Jay were very enthusiastic about it.
The Fairy Godmother called on Jay. Jay said, "C; turn it over to the authorities."
Carlos said, "I was going to say that!"
"Oh," Jay said, "Really?"
Jay grabbed Carlos in a headlock and messed up his hair. They jumped onto a desk as the wrestling match occurred. And lucky Evie couldn't see because she was checking her makeup.
"Boys, that's enough." The Fairy Godmother said.
"Oi!" I yelled. They both stopped and sat up straight.
The Fairy Godmother said, "thank you Maddie. I am going to encourage you to use that energy on the tourney field"I looked up from Mal's spell book that she had let me borrow. She told me to check for some useful spells. I looked around the field. A whistle blew. Jay and Carlos were on the field in uniforms next to the team.
"Jay! Ben! Offense!" The coach yelled. "Chad, you're defense! Aaron, you're the shooter!"
"Right, coach!"
"Hey, hey! Hey, you, lost boy!" The coach yelled at Carlos. "Get your helmet on and get out of the kill zone! Come on!"
Carlos said, "Kill zone? What--"
The coach yelled, "Pick it up, put it on! Two hands!"
He blew the whistle and the game began. Jay had already shoved someone over. The cheer squad...well, cheered. I rolled my eyes at them. Jay shoved two more people over and I couldn't help but hope that one of those people he viciously tackled was Ben.
I had been studying it for so long I hadn't noticed that the practice was over until someone sat next to me. The voice said, "You know, I thought Medusa's daughter would be more monstrous."
I looked over my shoulder and saw Chad. I rolled my eyes. He is not going to hit on me while Evie is crushing on him. "All monsters are human. If you were smart enough to stop looking at yourself in the mirror all the time, you'd realize that."
And then I slung my backpack over my shoulder and walked away.
I growled under my breath and walked to my locker which was next to Mal's.
Evie said, "Maybe you just need a little more eyeliner to make you look--"
I said, "No. That's not it"
Mal and Evie laughed at me ever-so-slightly. I rolled my eyes and took the spray paint from her. I spray painted a silhouette of Medusa's head and put the words 'Long Live Evil' inside of it. Evie said, "Can I see the eye shadow you've been using?"
"Uh," I said, "Okay. Sure."
I opened my locker and handed Evie my green and black eye shadow.
Ben walked over to us.
Ben said, "Hi."
Mal said, "Hi..."
I said, "Hey..."
Evie walked away.
"So," Ben said, "How was your first day?"
I sarcastically said, "About as fun as it could ever be, you know, being in the same school with Prince Crowns, right?"
He said, "Well, I'm glad you feel at home here."
I gritted my teeth and let out a low growl, slamming my locker door. Ben stared at my 'art'. He said, "You know, you should really think about taking these talents off the lockers and into art class. I could, uh, sign you up. What do you think?"
I said, "I think that's a good way to take all of the fun out of it." Mal nudged me and we saw Jane. "Keep him busy" she whispered.
Mal walked towards Jane, leaving me with Ben.
"Wanna show me around, I still get lost" I asked.
He smiled, "sure" he said.
He took me around the whole castle.
It was actually quite amazing.
"Did you like, grow up here" I asked.
He chuckled, "yes I did. I was just as amazed as you are" he said.
I elbowed him smiling.
"So tell me something" he said.
"Like what" I asked.
"Tell me your...favourite colours" he said
"Green and black" I said smiling.
"Mine are blue and yellow" he said.
"I never would of guessed that" I said smirking.
He rolled his eyes before grabbing my hand and taking me somewhere.
"What is this place?" I asked. It was a beautiful forest.
He looked at me, "I used to come here and bring everything I love. My parents, friends, pets, sometimes schoolwork." He said.
I looked at him and crooked my head.
"Why'd you bring me here" I asked. "So you know where to go when you want to do something you love" he said. I smiled.
"Thanks" I said. He checked his watch.
"We should get back to the castle" he said. We both walked back in a comfortable silence.
"See you later Maddie" he said.
"See you later" I said. I opened my door and saw Evie and Mal.
Evie squealed. "What?" I asked. "Ben likes you" she said. I rolled my eyes. "No he doesn't" I said.
"Sorry M, but I have to agree with E" Mal said.
"He was being friendly" I said.
"Then why'd he take you to a place where he brought everything he loved" Evie said. "You were spying on me" I said.
"Yes" she said simply.
I groaned and hopped onto my bed, this was going to be a long night.
