Chapter 11

River was awoken by a vibration in his jeans pocket, he looked out the window to see the morning light as he took out his phone to check, it was Aria. The text said her father just called, he's heading there. I know you're piss and so am I but don't do anything you'll regret. I'll be there in ten minutes... And remember Jack is Nina's dad; even though he is doing this she loves him. As River read the text, he felt his anger grow but he knew Aria texts was right, he knew Nina enough to know that she did love her father. Eight minutes past and River heard the door opened, he looked up to see Aria. He was happy that Aria got there before Jack because he didn't know if he could handle Jack alone.

"Thank God, it's you. You don't know how happy I am to see you. If it was Jack I might not be able to control myself."

"I know. I was hoping to get there before, Uncle Jack."

"Where's Andrew?"

"Andrew is at home, he couldn't come in without wanting to hit Jack." Aria said as they heard the door opened again and saw Jack Baker.

"You have some nerve coming here; I don't care if you are her father." River hissed.

Jack closed the door behind him before he said, "Hi Aria. How is she?"

"Hi Jack... She's still haven't woken up, if you could see. I can't believe you could even do such a thing. I thought you were more than that. We can't even call you our uncle anymore, we don't have respect for those who beat a woman up no matter if you were drunk or not.... Oh by the way, I just spoke to Dr. Paige and she said this wasn't the first or second time she'd been to the Emergency room. How many times had you beaten her up? Huh. And there's no excuse for beating a woman no matter if you were drunk." Aria hissed as tears streamed down her face.

"II... I know, and I can't make any excuses for acting this way. I wished I hadn't started drinking but I couldn't handle the pain of losing Miranda."

"How about Nina, she lost her mother too. She's young and needed a parent to lean on, not a drunken baster. She didn't go and solve her problems by drinking. What would you think if she went and did that." She replied back. "I thought you were the strong person in the family but I guess I'm wrong. LOOK A T H E R NOW, she might never wake up and it's your fault. How can you do this to her? And what the saddest thing is that she didn't tell anyone, including her best friends because she still loves you."

As Aria spoke she knew she should stop before she said anything that she couldn't return back but she couldn't. She was so mad and disappointed at Jack. She knew what she said hit Jack hard for he kneeled down and cried.

"I I'm sorry, I'm sorry Nina, I'm sorry Aria, I'm sorry Miranda. I'm so so sorry." Jack cried. "I failed you guys."

Aria wanted to make him pay but when she saw him she felt sorry for him. He looked pathetic down on floor and not the uncle she remembered throughout her life.

"You right it's my fault; I did this to my princess... Oh Nina" he said as he got up, walked to Nina side and held her hand. "I'm sorry Nina, I'm so sorry for everything I put you through. But please wake up, I promise to stop drinking, go to an AA group. I promise to be a better father. I'll do anything for you my special daring, just wake up please."

He continued to cry beside Nina as he started to pray for a miracle. While Aria confronted Jack with his problem, River stood on the corner, surprised at Aria's outburst. He thought he would lose it when he saw Jack but he felt calmer after Jack kneeled down and cried. He knew Aria had more rights to confront Jack than he did. She knew her and Jack longer to tell him what he needed to hear. He couldn't blame her for her outburst, though he was madder when he heard that this wasn't the second or third time Nina had been at this hospital. He did nothing but watched Jack held her hand and prayed for her awaking. The nurse came by a couple of times to check on Nina, before she told them that visiting hours were over.

This time Aria and Jack stayed overnight, Aria told River to go home and get some rest so he could stay over the next night. After River finally agreed to go home, Jack went down to the cafeteria to grab some dinner for the both of them. A few minutes after Jack went down; Dr. Paige came by to check up on Nina and gave Aria her belongings, which were three silver and black rose rings, her mother's pendent and her cell phone. While she took everything out from the zip lock bag, she felt tears droplets slide down her face.

“Oh Nina, come on you could do it. You could fight it. Everyone is waiting for you to wake up; we all love you and can't imagine the world without you. You always make everyone smile, even though they are upset or mad. Please wake up, I can't lose you, you're like a sister to me. I don't care if we aren't blood related because you are like a twin sister to me... I love you, I need you, we all need you so please if you could hear us give us a sign and wake up." Aria said as she held her hand.

Just then Aria felt a vibration on her hand as she forgot she had Nina's phone on her hand. Aria unlocked the phone and saw that it was a text from Mickey. Aria met Mickey twice and liked him. She read the text that said "Hey Nina, whatup?"

Aria replied back to him and said "Hey Mickey, this is Aria, Nina's best friend. She won't able to text back because she was in an accident. She's at the hospital."

The phone vibrated again and he wrote, "What? I don't believe you. You are just trying to pull my leg because you're mad at me for lying to you."

Aria wondered what lie but she didn't want to be nosy so she texted back, "I'm not Nina. I told you and I'm not trying to pull your legs. It's true, Nina has been in a car accident yesterday.."

One minute after that text, the phone vibrated but this time it was a different vibration. She looked at the phone and answered the call.

"Hey Aria, is it true? You're not lying."

"Hi Mickey, Are you kidding me I won't joke around with that issue," She said as she stopped herself from a break down.

"Oh wow... Which hospital is she in? Could I see her?" He asked with a worried tone.

Aria told him where the hospital was and that he would have to visit tomorrow. While she talked to him she wondered what the lie was and she had to stop herself from asking. She didn't tell him any details of her condition as he kept asking. They finally said their goodbyes as he had gotten frustrated with Aria. Jack came back with two plates of chicken strips with fries and two bottle of water. They ate quietly together as they watched TV. After they were done, Jack threw out the plates while Aria got ready for bed, Jack told Aria that she could have the couch while he would sleep on the chair. They were both physically and emotionally tried to argue so they both went to their spot and slept soundly. Jack and Aria were in a deep sleep that they didn't hear the nurse come in a couple of times to check on Nina.
