Chapter 5:
Natalie’s POV
What the fuck. Do I look like a bloody chauffeur to these people? First Tiffany, who met a friend and will spend the day with her, now these people? No sir, I refuse to drive people around, even if it were One Direction. Good lord. Just think of how Tiffany would die if she heard what I’m doing right now. Ha, stay jealous. Oh snap; he just asked me for my name. Maybe I should just make a fake one up. Like Gertrude, or Olga.
“Natalie. My name’s Natalie,” I told him as four other boys slide in the back row seats. I was starting to like Olga, too.
I heard a mixed jumble of ‘hello’s and his and ‘thanks you’s from the four boys.
“You know, introducing yourself to the best chauffeur you’ll ever get is a good idea,” I told them.
They told me all their names; I managed to memorize all of them while staring at their beautiful faces. Holy crap these people are attractive. I don’t really get uncomfortable around beautiful human beings; I get even more talkative. Instead of saying some interesting or flirty line, I just blurt out, “are you guys hungry?”
Hey, don’t blame me. It was 1:30 and I didn’t eat lunch.
Surprisingly, their faces lit up with joy, as if they’ve never been asked that question before. They seemed really excited to eat so I drove them to California Pizza Kitchen. Might as well just feed the pizza; everybody loves pizza.
This might’ve been the most awkward lunch in my whole life. It was even more awkward than the time I walked into the men’s restroom and… Anyways, I was thinking about what to say. Like holy balls Natalie, five British sex gods surround you; do you treat them like royalty or like your friends?
I knew this was probably like the stupidest question ever, but I really wanted to ask Zayn this, and YOLO, right? I look at him and ask, “What kind of mascara do you use? Cause your eyelashes look like they came from a Maybelline commercial or something.”
Zayn cracked a smile while the others laughed. Great, now you just embarrassed yourself Nat. Good job. “I don’t use mascara, but thanks… I guess,” he said.
Since I was their chauffeur, I guess I had to show them around. I took them to places like the Hollywood sign, the Chinese looking theatre, all those places. Turns out these boys are just like the boys at my school, just a lot hotter. Also, Harry was being extremely flirty with me: why. I’m not attractive or special. But hey, he’s a pretty good kid, and two can play this game.
While I was driving, Harry was sitting next to me at shotgun and said, “So Nat, tell me about your family.”
Immediately, the mental shields come up. Everybody thought Steve was my
biological father; nobody knew that my dad died in a car accident. I just told him, “Just mind your own business Harold. And change the radio station; that’s terrible music.”
Then he tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear and pressed the button.
After that, I drove over to the mall and parked the car. I got out and said, “get out losers, we’re going shopping.”
Mean Girls reference. Score.
They got out and looked around; I think I chose the right mall: the Irvine Spectrum. It was a big mall with plenty of people. We can totally blend in, maybe.
