Chapter 17:

I was surprised… Very, very surprised. Natalie… Like me? I watched her carefully. She just looked tired and with a resigned look, she continued.

“I’m not a person who just gives out chances like a pedophile does with candy. The fact that I was actually going to give you a second chance is a huge deal. So I’m sorry I actually fell for you. I thought maybe you would’ve liked me too, until I saw you and your fans. It just made me realize that you treat me the way you treat all your fans, and I’m not even a freaking fan. This showed me how stupid I was. How stupid I was to even like you, how stupid I was to even talk to you. I should’ve just kicked you out of my car. If only I could go back in time and tell myself what to do. Also I’d like to thank you. Thank you for showing me how pointless love is; how it won’t get me anywhere in life. So thank you for reminding me to keep my guard up, to not give second chances, cause in the end the only thing that’s going to happen is I will get hurt. That is all.”

More silence. Now what do I say?

“I think you’re just being too naïve about this; you didn’t actually give me the second chance,” I said, “please, just please Nat, give me the second chance. Please give it to me, and I’ll prove that second chances can be good, that you weren’t stupid, that love does have a point, and that you’re more than any fan to me. And I’ll prove to you that falling for me was not a bad choice.”

Even more silence, but not an awkward silence. The silence that filled the air was the silence that was present in a room full of thinking students.

After a few more minutes, she opened her mouth and murmured, “Fine.”

By this time, mostly everyone’s awake, and we have about an hour and a half left till we get there.

“So what made you end up liking me?” asked Natalie.

            “Excuse me?”

“Well, you know, you knew me for only one day, and you said you liked me,” she continued on saying.

I had to think about this for a while. Then I finally said, “Well, just something about you got me, I guess. You don’t act like regular girls. Other girls would go crazy or follow me around like a puppy dog if I spent the day with them. But not you; you treated me like a regular person, and I liked that.”

            “Oh,” she said quietly.

“Hey Natalie, I’m free tomorrow night, and I was wondering if you’d like to go on a date with me?”

Natalie’s POV

“… I was wondering if you’d like to go on a date with me?” asked Harry.

Um… Well, international heartthrob Harry Styles just asked me out on a date. But to say yes? Did this count as dating someone? The bet with Steve was still on; this doesn’t count right? This is just, spending time with someone. A friend, spending time with a friend. That’s good.

I turned to face him and said, “Sure.”

Around thirty minutes later, our plane landed in Australia.

“So tomorrow night, I’ll pick you up at six. Just text me where your hotel is, alright?” he told me.

I noticed he also took my carry on down for me, good boy.

“Yes, perfect,” I told him with a smile while taking my bag from him.

Once we all got off the plane we separated ways. The boys all got into one limousine, of course, with their huge bags of luggage trailing after them. Jesus, my whole closet couldn’t even add up to that.

Our marine biology teacher, Mr. Stephenski, yelled at us, “Alright little munchkins, get on the bus! We have about thirty minutes in this bus so hurry up and go to the bathroom if you must release your body fluids!”

A little bit about Mr. Stephenski, I suppose. Mr. Stephenski is a short little man with a receding hairline. He always calls us the weirdest things ever, like munchkins or chipmunks. We all got used to it though; and he has this weird obsession with bananas. He also liked to talk about his wife during class. When he didn’t talk about that woman or marine biology, he would always talk about his duck farm. Other than that, he’s a really good teacher.

We all piled onto the buss, me sitting next to the window and Becca on my other side. I saw Harry about to get in the car, so I knocked to get his attention. The rest of the kids on the bus were busy taking pictures of him and knocking, making a loud noise, but he looked up and made eye contact with me. When he saw me, I smiled and waved goodbye, just as the bus started driving away. This trip keeps getting better and better.
