Chapter 28:
7 Months Later
Natalie’s POV
I glanced at the mirror one last time, checking my dress. It was prom night, and Ryan decided to be a gentleman and take me since nobody asked me. The dress was long and the color was a deep blue. I wore a pair of blue Steve Madden heels and curled my hair to finish it off. I turned around and saw Tiff pretty much crying at my door. Tiffany changed the past months; she’s actually matured into a somewhat classy young lady, and she’s tolerable now.
“Tiff, what’s wrong?” I asked her.
“H-H-Harry….”
“Hary what?”
“S-St-Styles got a girlfriend,” she wailed in between sobs.
My throat constricted, a hard lump forming in my throat. Even though it’s been about seven months, I still get conflicted emotions whenever I think about Harry.
‘Breathe,’ I told myself, ‘Breathe.’
“Well… That’s good for him… I guess… I’m… Um… Sorry for your loss,” I told her hesitantly, not knowing how to respond.
She just looked at me for a moment and resumed sobbing terribly then retreated to her room, probably to cry in her pillows or something. I heard the doorbell and walked downstairs. Ryan stood at the entrance, looking wonderful as ever.
“Thanks for taking me,” I told him.
“My pleasure,” he replied with a smile.
“You didn’t have to; I mean, I’m sorry if you wanted to ask someone else…”
“Hey, I asked you because I wanted to go with you, not because I was forced to. Everybody should be able to experience their senior prom, even if their date’s just a friend.”
I laughed and walked over to his car. We both got in, the car started, and off we drove.
Zayn’s POV
Here we are, back in Los Angeles, on the way to some high school. This must be some really rich high school, considering how they paid us just to sing ONE song at their prom.
“Be the special finale the seniors will cherish,” the principal of Malibu High School said. Malibu High School. Something about that name reminded me of something, but it’s probably not important. We drove up at the entrance and I saw the sign of the school. Then it hit me: this was Natalie’s high school.
