Raina’s Perspective

I glanced over at Zyan, whose eyes were locked on the road.

And then I glanced at my hand, which was entwined with Zyan’s.

“So, this is really it, huh?”  I laughed lightly.  “I mean, now it’s just you and me and the open road.  Where should we go first?  New York?  Boston?  Chicago?  Los Angeles?”

Zyan laughed and gave me a look.  “Well, all we need to worry about now is you keeping me awake.  We have to drive all night, you know.”

“I know, you told me already.”  I rolled my eyes at him.

Basically, after we made our amazing getaway, Zyan told me pretty much the whole plan.

“Okay, so we’ll have to drive all night to get far enough away so they can’t track us.  And, once we’re out in Ohio or something, we’ll stop at a hotel and get some sleep.  And, if we get that far, you can call Bryce and talk to him.”

“What about Jedrek, Zyan?  Don’t you think he’ll be the most understanding?”

            “I don’t know.  We’ll see.”

And from that, I pretty much had no idea what to think.  And, the car ride was somewhat awkward and dead silent, other than the occasional comment.

Zyan cleared his throat, “I want to say thanks again for coming with me.  You’re saving my ass.  Literally.”

“No problem.”  I gave him a smile.  “I just need to be filled in on all the details about everything.  Like, what exactly is the ‘Madness’ and why is it such a big deal?  And what happens once you go through it?”

Zyan chuckled, shaking his hair out of his eyes.  I hadn’t noticed how long it had gotten…

“Like I said, the Madness is just a way the first three Galaxies freak you out, to put it simply.  And, I’m not exactly sure how they characterize it into the different parts… But, basically, you go through something that changes your life or point of view, and your mind just… Snaps… For the lack of a better term.”

“But wait, how do you know it happens?”  I asked, confused.  Honestly, I didn’t understand what the big deal was about ‘Free Will’ or whatever.

“You get a vision thing,” he furrowed his eyebrows, “and you can’t do what you used to be able to, and your eyes don’t turn anymore.”

“So you can’t hypnotize me anymore?!”  I shrieked, somewhat excited.

“I’m not sure.  That is just a theory.”  He smirked, glancing over at me.  “Don’t think that means I can’t get you to do something I want you to.”

I scoffed and turned my attention out the window.  “Whatever.”

“You’re like a child, you know that right?  You never act very mature.”

            “That’s a lie!”

“There’s the face…”  He laughed, throwing me a look.

I crinkled my forehead, “What face?”

            “… And that one.”
